Gallup: Public divided on how to fix state budget crises


The public is not sure what is the best solution to fix a state budget crises. In the case of Wisconsin, the governor, Scott Walker, tuned a surplus into a deficit with tax cuts and an experimental health care program. He then targeted state workers to fix his budget shortfall rather than spreading the wealth around.

Since the states and municipalities are responsible for the education system, teachers usually consume about half of state operating funds. Walker could consider dropping his experimental health care program and tax cuts that created the fiscal crises in the first place. Gallup Poll results follow:

Nationally, there is no support for eliminating bargaining rights for state unions. More than six in 10 Americans is opposed to this idea.
