Time Magazine: The Education Premium

According to the Time article corporations will hire nearly half of their new hires from college and require either a baccalaureate or associate degree.

The other half of the work force will have some college, a high school (HS) degree with no college or less than a high school diploma.Less than 10 per cent of those hired will have less than a HS diploma.

The smartest thing a student can do in these hard economic times is to stay in school and get a degree.

Although nationally unemployment  is 9.4 per cent and far higher in certain states, mature workers with college have a 5.1 per cent unemployment rate.

However, when it comes to college graduates younger than 25 years, the unemployment rate has averaged 9.2 percent during the past year which is nearly identical to the national unemployment rate. 

The corporate demand for students with baccalaureate degrees is about about four times that for those with an associate degree.

Secular Human taught tat 'for profit schools." Most of them produce students in criminal justice, medical assisting and IT, and award AA degrees.

An associate degree may be all that is necessary in these career fields. In IT certification in a practical technology like Microsoft server, Cisco routers or security is as important as a college degree and IT workers are expected to get certifications to progress. 

The best thing a student can do at this time is to stay in school and graduate.
