Dangerous Intersection: Is religion a scam?

Dangerous Intersection has a great article on this subject: See http://dangerousintersection.org/2011/01/05/alabama-atheist-billboard-controvery/

Secular Human broke the code on religion when he read some of the works of Immanuel Kant in college. Kant stated that no act is moral if it done for an exchange. A moral act should stand on its own.

In other words, if you are going to a church, synagogue or mosque for the promised reward of heaven, you are going to church for a self-interest.

A lot of sales people join churches to peddle their wares and make social contacts. Sales people and funeral home directors love churches. You will see their ads in the church bulletin.

Is anyone surprised that conservatives embrace religion more than progressives? Churches provide a strong emotional appeal with all that church music, singing and oratory.

This appeals to conservative with large amygdalas. See http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1342239/Brain-study-reveals-right-wing-conservatives-larger-primitive-amygdala.html

However, those on the left have brains with thicker anterior cingulates. This area of the brain associated with anticipation and decision-making. It also connects the left and right lobes of the brain together.
Many progressives view religion as irrational.
