WEST PALM BEACH —Florida's Christian Family Coalition, a Miami-based social conservative group, raised concern Thursday that newly elected Governor Rick Scott has financial ties to adult entertainment giant Playboy.
The Christian Family Coalition of Florida are calling on Florida Grifter-Elect Rick Scott to get rid of his QuePasa Corporation stocks. The christian organization wants Scott to repudiate the company because they claim it sells pornography to Latinos.
Republican Gov.-elect Rick Scott is giving no indication he intends to bow to Christian protesters' demands that he give up his investment in a Spanish-language Playboy Mexico. Palyboy Mexico's web site allows users to share provocative photos and messages.
Scott spokesman Brian Burgess stated:
I understand (the coalition's) moral concerns, but unfortunately this stuff permeates society," Scott spokesman Brian Burgess said Friday, adding that Florida's next governor invested in Quepasa Corp., which operates Quepasa.com, four years ago because he thought it was a project with a lucrative future.
He has no say in the direction of the company at this point, and certainly has no say in who is allowed to advertise on the network."
Scott, who will be sworn in January , probably will place his investments in a blind trust to avoid any conflict of interest as governor.
Included in his investments are 2 million shares in Quepasa Corp. worth between $6 million and $8 million, according to financial disclosure forms required of political candidates.
