Hysterical Raisins' take on Rick Iott, congressional nominee for Ohio’s 9th District

An election year already notable for its menagerie of extreme and unusual candidates can add another one: Rich Iott, the Republican nominee for Congress from Ohio’s 9th District, and a Tea Party favorite, who for years donned a German Waffen SS uniform and participated in Nazi re-enactments.

According to Wikipedia,The 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking was one of the elite Panzer divisions of the thirty eight Waffen SS divisions. It was recruited from foreign volunteers, from Scandinavia, Finland, Estonia, The Netherlands, and Belgium under the command of German officers.

During the course of World War II, the division progressed from a motorised infantry division to a Panzer division and served on the Eastern Front during World War II. It surrendered in May 1945 to the advancing American forces in Austria.

The Waffen SS were the real 'bad asses' of the Nazi military. They reported directly to Heinrich Himmler, the head of the German Gestapo, during most of the war.

The SS were better equipped than the standard Army Wehrmacht troops,  who Hitler considered to be disloyal at the end of the war.

One of the first missions of he SS was the extermination of Jews as the Nazi forces raced through Poland and the Ukraine.

Donning a Nazi uniform is an exterme of bad taste.  Donning an SS uniform is something only a really  'sick puppy" or an ignoramus would do.
