Glen Beck on Universities.
There was a time not too long ago in this country that we used to walk through walls of fire to make sure we weren’t funding Hamas or Hezbollah. I have news for you: there are a lot of universities that are just as dangerous with indoctrination of our children as these terror groups are in Iran or North Korea. This is right wing BS. Fist of all many of the private religious schools and the numerous 'for profit' schools are right wing. Most of the students with two year Associate Degrees get minimal exposure to the liberal arts because they do not have to take many liberal arts or social sciences course to graduate.
Poorly educated people often confuse educated professors with liberalism. Educated people know the US was not founded as a white, Christian nation and most professors understand the difference between socialism and fascism.
Many teachers have a more metropolitan and international view of the world. College teaches young adults how to think and analyze issues. Along the way, young adults loose many of their foolish conventional childhood notions of how the world really is.
Rightardia considers too many people on the right to have High School Harry or Harriet Syndrome. Middle Class Warrior has one of these in his family. Watch Matthew McConaughey's character in the movie "Dazed and Confused" if you want to understand a High School Harry.
Some of the preconceptions of a High School Harry are:
1. The US is the greatest country in the world. This may have been so at one time, but not now. Rightardia has published many international indexes that show where the US fits into the international food chain. We are frequently last in many of these studies of the industrial world.
2. The US is a Christian nation and we must believe in God to keep America strong. The Establishment Clause (First Amendment) and article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli make it clear the US is and always was a secular nation.
3. The Civil War was fought to preserve state's rights or end slavery. Neither is true. The Civil War was fought to prevent the expansion of slavery into new US territories. The war would have been over by 1863 if the union forces had been led by a more able commander than George B. McClellan. The South really never had much of a chance of prevailing.
3. The US won World War 2. Although the US did defeat the Japanese in the Pacific, this victory over the Nazis in Europe was the main US effort. The Russians were primarily responsible for the defeat of the Nazis in World War 2 and paid a horrible price (60 million people) to beat them.
4. Social Security won't be there when I retire. Middle Class Warrior (MCW) has a 40-year old wingnut as a relative who believes this. He has credit cards that need to be paid off, he doesn't own a house and he drives a 12 year old car.
MCW explained to him that he would have to accumulate more than $250,000 when he retires in 25 years to provide a comparable Social Security Income of $1500 per month.
He would have to put away at least $7,000-S8,000 as year to make it happen and invest his money wisely. He would also have to hit retirement age at the right time when Wall Street was doing well.
This is the same person who told his family when he graduated from high school that he would be living on the beach, be driving three cars, own a sail boat and be a millionaire. Many of his friends call him a 'dreamer." The Major considers him a "bull shit artist' like Sarah Palin.
The wingnut supports extending tax cuts for the affluent because he thinks he might one become affluent himself. Fat chance!
This wingnut doesn't even realize that his income places him in the lower middle class
He one of the many Red Staters who receives the Earned Income Tax Credit, yet he complains about Federal income tax.
He is one of the 40 per cent of Americans, that Rush Limbaugh complains about, who doesn't pay income tax because his income is so low. Yet he is a ditto head and doesn't see the contradiction.
Yes, he has a bad case of High School Harry Syndrome.
