Host John Harwood, a student, a Wall Streeter, a small business-owner and a self-described member of the middle class, the president acknowledged that "times are tough for everybody," but pointed to his record so far as president and asked the audience to trust in his agenda.
We went through the worst recession since the Great Depression," he said. "Those programs that we put in place worked. So now you've got a financial system that is stable. ...The challenge is that the hole was so deep.
The tough questions came near the beginning. The chief financial officer for a veterans service organization, who called herself a "middle-class American," said she was "exhausted of defending you" and "deeply disappointed with where we are right now."
Obama may have oversold the 'hope and change' during the 2010 election. He had hoped for bipartisanship and he squandered his political capital on it. The health care battle exhausted the Rightardia staff.
If the public thinks the Republicans will do better, they are in for a surprise. Right wing ideologues won't get us out of this political mess and tax cuts will make the deficit worse.
Sending immigrants back to Mexico won't help either. Historically Republicans have created about half of the jobs Democratic administrations have created.
The moral of this story is don't switch horses in the middle of the stream unless you want to drown! Get ready for the immersion.

Funny. Yeah, I'm exhausted from defending him (on Democracy Underground of all places) as well. Guess being president isn't easy, who knew?
