Dr. Laura Schlessinger's racial rant is her latest incendiary remarks

Here is a partial trascript from Media Matters:

Dr. Laura Schlessinger uses racial slur 11 times, says "if anybody without enough melanin says it it's a horrible thing, but if black people say it, it's affectionate." Schlessinger and the caller then had the following exchange:
CALLER: How about the N-word? So, the N-word's been thrown around --
SCHLESSINGER: Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO, listen to a black comic, and all you hear is nigger, nigger, nigger.
CALLER: That isn't --
SCHLESSINGER: I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing; but when black people say it, it's affectionate.
After taking a commercial break, Schlessinger said the caller had a "chip on your shoulder" and "too much sensitivity and not enough sense of humor." She and the caller then had the following exchange:
CALLER: So it's OK to say "nigger"?
SCHLESSINGER: -- and not enough sense of humor.
CALLER: It's OK to say that word?
SCHLESSINGER: It depends how it's said.
CALLER: Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word?
SCHLESSINGER: It's -- it depends how it's said. Black guys talking to each other seem to think it's OK.
CALLER: But you're not black. They're not black. My husband is white.
SCHLESSINGER: Oh, I see. So, a word is restricted to race. Got it. Can't do much about that.
CALLER: I can't believe someone like you is on the radio spewing out the "nigger" word, and I hope everybody heard it.
SCHLESSINGER: I didn't spew out the "nigger" word.
CALLER: You said, "Nigger, nigger, nigger."
SCHLESSINGER: Right, I said that's what you hear.
CALLER: Everybody heard it.
SCHLESSINGER: Yes, they did.
CALLER: I hope everybody heard it.
SCHLESSINGER: They did, and I'll say it again --
CALLER: So what makes it OK for you to say the word?
SCHLESSINGER: -- nigger, nigger, nigger is what you hear on HB --
CALLER: So what makes it --
SCHLESSINGER: Why don't you let me finish a sentence?
CALLER: OK.
SCHLESSINGER: Don't take things out of context. Don't double N -- NAACP me. Tape the --
CALLER: I know what the NAACP --
SCHLESSINGER: Leave them in context.

It nice to be a progressive. Most understand that the N-word is not suitable ever. Being a progressive means you don't have to say you are sorry. At least , not very often.

There is a difference between being 'politically correct' and impolitic or politically stupid.

You say:
Most understand that the N-word is not suitable ever.

Most who? Most white people? Most black people use it. I hear them use it all the time. Which was Dr. Laura's point... I don't agree with most of what she says, but on this, I have to agree with her.

Ever talk to a Philippino about black people? They'll tell you they hate them. Same with Chinese - they despise black people, and are afraid of them.

I'd say most people don't use it because black people get angry and violent with non-blacks when they use the term.

If black people are truly offended by it, THEY should stop using it. I'm willing to bet that "most" black people don't object to it - unless you aren't black. THAT is racism. And hypocrisy.

The job of commentators is to draw attention to hypocrisy in ALL its forms. I don't regard her use of the term as incendiary - I see it as an attempt to stimulate a debate on a topic that most white people are too afraid to broach. Whites have become afraid of black people. Blacks know it, and they use any excuse for violence.

I would say that blacks have every right to use the n-word because of the poor treatment they got in the US for many years. That is a small consolation.

I came out of the Armed Services and knew better than to use the n-word. On Usenet I see conservatives use the n-word every day. It makes the poster look like a racist.
