US beats Algeria in the 91st minute 1-nil
Landon Donovan used his brains and made an easy shot when the US team flooded the Algerian box near the end of the game at the 91st minute. The UK team has Slovenia up 1-nil which will put the US team in the top 16. The US team will progress to play for the FIFA World Cup. The UK team also went through.
The US team outplayed the Algerians the last half. Algeria entered the World cup with a 10 person team.
The US was fortunate to progress because a victory was taken by a bad call in the game with Slovenia. The referee in the last game was banned from the FIFA cup after the bad call in the US game with Slovenia.
The US coach was a good sport after the disappointing tie with Slovenia and the US team functions well under pressure, often scoring 11th hour goals late in the game.
The US team is ready to win the world cup, if the ball bounces the right way for them. France has been eliminated from the competition and Italy and Germany are on the ropes. Of course, the South American soccer teams like Brazil and Argentina are always formidable. Uruguay is also emerging as a soccer power.
This is a great day for the English speaking world.
