The Republican advantage over Democrats for enthusiasm in an election year is the biggest since 1994 when the GOP last won control of Congress, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll conducted June 11-13.
Fifty-nine percent of Republicans and Republican-leaners say they are more enthusiastic than usual compared to 44 percent of Democrats. In 2006, when the Democrats captured the House, they had the advantage by a 50 percent to 40 percent margin. The Republican edge was 4 points in 2202 and 1998, and 10 points in 1994.
"The enthusiasm question has generally provided an accurate indication of which party will fare better in the midterm elections," Gallup said. "Since 1994, the party that has had a relative advantage on the enthusiasm measure has gained congressional seats in that midterm election year."
Rightardia comment: The health care initiative went on far too long and dampened Democratic enthusiasm. Too much effort was spent on one issue.
Obama has to rebuild Organizing for America (OFA) and get the party started for the 2010 elections. This will be his greatest leadership challenge. Of course, there are a lot more Democrats than Republicans so it will take more than Republican enthusiasm to win.
Although the GOP has little chance of taking over the Senate, the Tea Party wants to mount a recall effort against Democratic Senators. Only 18 states and the District of Columbia allow the recall of US Senators. If you're not living in one of these states you have no constitutional rights to recall. The 18 states allowing for recall are as follows:
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington and Wisconsin.
