James O’Keefe: ‘This Is A Huge Misunderstanding’

by Colby Hall | 9:28 pm, February 1st, 2010 Appearing tonight as a guest on Hannity, James O’Keefe gave his first interview since getting arrested in the New Orleans office of Senator Mary Landrieu.

Despite repeated efforts by Sean Hannity to get some specifics, O’Keefe declined to share any details about his arrest since he is still subject to an ongoing investigation. That’s not to say that its not a fascinating video.

O’Keefe did admit to “posing as something that he (was) not”, in order to, as he said, “get to the truth.” He also repeatedly defended the behavior as something that other investigative journalists have been doing for years.

Hannity predictably tried to compare the caper to “like To Catch A Predator?” Of course, Chris Hansen's To Catch a Predator was coordinated with the police who arrested most of the pedophiles who showed up at the stake out on the spot.

O'Keefe denies that he or any of the other members had bugging equipment with them. Yet the faux telephone repairmen tried to get access to the telephone closet  in Sen. Landrieu's office.

The top federal prosecutor for New Orleans has removed himself from the case of four conservative activists arrested last week while trying to capture hidden camera footage in a senator's office, the Department of Justice said Monday.

A Justice Department news release said Jim Letten, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, recused himself from the case a day after the Jan. 25 arrests in Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in New Orleans. Letten's top lieutenant, assistant U.S. Attorney Jan Mann, has taken over.

The news release didn't say why Letten removed himself, and his spokeswoman Anna Christman said she couldn't comment.

One of the suspects is the son of Letten's Shreveport-based counterpart.
Breitbart is claiming the conservative filmmaker "sat in jail for 28 hours without access to an attorney" while the prosecutor made his case to the media, the U.S. attorney involved stepped down.
