Daly Kos: Florida Rep. Bill Young expected to retire

Rep. Bill Young

The retirement by Republican Congressman Bill Young is possible when he completes his 20th term. District 10 one of the more Dem-friendly potential open seats in the country:

Retired University of South Florida St. Petersburg political science professor Darryl Paulson is convinced U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, will announce his retirement after 40 years in office, either at a Pinellas GOP meeting Jan. 11 or at a Suncoast Tiger Bay luncheon later this month.

It is worth noting that a lot of folks thought in 2008 that Young's slow fundraising pace, and the presence of a potentially strong Dem candidate in Bob Hackworth, would send Young to the showers. It didn't happen, and Young was re-elected easily in November.

Rightardia comment: One of our writers has worked with Rep. Young's staff and was impressed. Rep. Young will be a tough act to follow. He has been instrumental in getting funding for the Bay Pines VA Medical Center, St. Petersburg College. and numerous other projects in Pinellas County.
