“Culture wars” are a common topic on the O’Reilly Factor, but rarely does it get so personal as to call out fellow news anchors — but not last night.
Monica Crowley went after Katie Couric, asking if Couric’s comments about an “angry nation” represented and “elite left-wing media looking down on Americans.” And that was just the beginning.
Crowley aired a clip from December 22 in which Couric shared her opinion about the mood of America, referencing both economic hardships and a bitter partisan divide that fueled an angry and polarized nation.
Crowley took great exception to Couric’s comments, and had a sympathetic listener in guest Tim Graham, Director of Media Analysis for the Media Research Center, a self-described conservative group.
Rightardia comment: This isn't news nor is it an editorial. It is what Ed Schultz would describe as 'psycho talk.' First of all, the economic mess and unemployment was caused by Republicans, not the Democrats.
Second, the two political parties are not equal. Both parties have their elites, but the Republicans have traditionally represented the big corporations and the affluent. The GOP is fundamentally a minority party.
Couric's comments were measured and not that controversial. The lack of respect she refers to probably relates to the rampant racism of the right on the Internet.
Monica Crowley holds a B.A. in Political Science from Colgate University and a Ph.D. in International Relations from Columbia University (2000). She is hardly what one would describe as coming from 'plain folks.'
George W. Bush made some historic blunders as president. His deregulation and Ownership Society led us into a financial disaster. He also led us an unnecessary war in Iraq and bungled the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Crowley tries to whip us right wing populist support by suggesting mainstream media is left wing and elitist. You certainly could make an argument that Cable news MSNBC is left wing, but CBS News, c'mon! What elite do the Democrats represent? College professors, perhaps?
Couric has become a 'whipping girl' for the right because Sarah Palin flubbed the Couric's softball interview. Many on the right are still convinced that McCain could have won the 2008 election and ignore Obama's mandate.
Obama won the election by nearly 10 million votes and had better than a 2:1 electoral advantage. The right wing needs to get over the election loss. It wasn't close.
This is one of the snottiest right wing attacks our editors have seen in a while.
