Media Matters : Misinformer of the Year Award

Media Matters for America has announced its "Misinformer of the Year" and the winner is...Glenn Beck.

Yes, everyone's favorite self-described "clown" won in part for his spread of disinformation on climate change and Americorps as well as his relentless attacks on the former special advisor for green jobs, enterprise and innovation at Council on Environmental Quality, Van Jones.

Beck often described Jones as a criminal: While at Yale Law School, he volunteered as a legal monitor at a protest following the Rodney King trial. Jones was detained at the rally but was let go after four hours. He was never convicted of a felony.

It was Richard Nixon who began the trend of naming czars, appointing a drug czar, Jerome Jaffe, in 1971. Reagan continued the trend by naming his own drug czar.

As for climate, Beck's theory seems to be that there is a secret cabal made up of the greens and progressive politicians to overthrow the government and submit the country to a new world government by committing to reducing GHG emissions.

To prove his point he went after the Apollo Alliance, a coalition of labor, buinsess, and green groups pushing for energy solutions.

I emailed you a response that went something like this:

A fairer society in which a person can work for the same company for 30 years and retire in dignity. A society in which medical care is low cost, universal and sick cannot be disenfranchised. A society in which a black man can be elected presidnet without 1000s of racists taking to the streets.

A soceity that better educates Americans so they understand that Limbaugh and Beck are simply corporate shills (a polite word for fascists).

I understand this statement: " A fairer society in which a person can work for the same company for 30 years and retire in dignity. A society in which medical care is low cost, universal and sick cannot be disenfranchised."

My father worked for Stone and Webster for almost 30 years as a mechanical engineer that built nuclear power plants. He was spit out at 56 years old and with all of his skills and experience he couldn't get a good steady job because of his age. He was dead by the age of 60. I know he felt betrayed and used. What do you propose that would have changed the outcome for my father?

Regarding healthcare, how important is quality of care to you? Do you realize that this bill will raise costs for 95% of Americans with the taxes on "cadallac plans". 95% of Americans have those plans and make under $250k per year. 50% of Americans have those plans and make under $100k per year. Also do you realize that this bill will still not cover everyone.

Who were the racists that were in the streets? I missed that. What are you referencing? Did you know that 95% of blacks in America voted for Obama? Do you think race played into their vote at all?

Beck and Limbaugh are corporate shills? Where is your proof? What kind of education do you propose?
