Mammoth Coal Ordered to Rehire Fired Union Workers

typical anti-union propaganda

Did you ever wonder why Republicans hate unions? Unions affect the bottom line. The 25 per cent increase in the average union workers wages doesn't end up in the owners or stock holders pockets. Union workers can also file grievances against managers who are treating them unfairly. That doesn't go over well with the typical authoritarian corporation either.

Did you ever wonder why unions are weak in the US? This is why.

Mammoth Coal Company has been ordered to rehire 85 workers who were refused jobs when the Mammoth Mine was purchased by Massey Energy in 2004.

The National Labor Relations Board made the ruling on September 30 and along with the order to rehire the workers the company has been ordered to recognize and bargain with the United Mine Workers of America.

The board determined that the mine had discriminated the 85 workers due to their status as union members. Last week’s ruling follows a 2007 ruling which found that Massey had violated the National Labor Relations Act by refusing to hire former union employees.
