It is clear that the GOP has lost its edge in patriotism. The Astroturfers and Birthers are shrill right wing ideologues who prefer private health care to a new health care system that covers all Americans and bans pre-existing conditions.
Most conservatives want to move farther to the right. Of course, as you move to the right, you descend into fascism. As FDR stated:
“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it comes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group.”
When government is controlled by one person, we call it a dictatorship. When the system is controlled by a group of wealthy industrialists and bankers, we call it an oligarchy.
The battle between democrats and oligarchs have been going on since the time of the ancient Greeks. The Athenian government used democratic elections. The Spartans preferred an oligarchy. Is their any surprise the Spartans were big on military defense?
The GOP oligarchy is a two tier system. Most of the leaders come through the Greek fraternity systems at American colleges and universities. The rest are successful small businessmen who seem to usually lose all of their business acumen once they enter government.
Democratic administrations have traditionally outperformed Republican in balancing the budget and reduction of the nation debt and the deficit. Democrats have also created more jobs while they were in office.
The GOP has become the party of entrenched white corporatists and small businessmen. It has become a regional power that has its base in the South and parts of the West.
Michael Steele was elected as the chair of the RNC to put more Republican brown faces in front of the electorate. The latest GOP tact is to recruit pampered athletes to run for office. One of these poltico-athletes, Sen. Jim Bunning, is so unpopular in Kentucky that he will not run for re-election.
Democrats with their emphasis on the middle class now have the edge in patriotism and need play the patriot card whenever they can.
Wave the flag, Democrats. We represent the true American heritage of the Founders such as Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. We don't believe in state' rights, a concept that was discredited when the North defeated the South in the Civil War. We believe in an America that benefits all Americans not just the GOP oligarchs.
