Bubbles the bonobo is now a millionaire

BEIJING, July. 24 -- It is an open secret that wealthy people may often sign their money over to their pets leaving close relatives with nothing.

At least a dog did not get its owner's fortune this time. At least it was someone in the primate family. Of course, money has little value to a bonobo.  Bubbles would prefer than Michael Jackson were still alive.

Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee Bubbles has become the richest chimp in the world after the pop idol had signed $2 million away to Bubbles. Jackson’s relatives said that Bubbles had his own bed, that he would sit at one table with the pop star and that the chimp could even use his private toilet.

According to Wikipedia, the singer revealed to journalist Martin Bashir that Bubbles had become overly aggressive in a 2003 documentary, Living with Michael Jackson. He was removed to an animal sanctuary over fears he might attack Jackson's newborn son. The singer stated he regretted having to remove the chimp because they can live to be 60 years old.

During the interview, Jackson also told Bashir of how he had planned to hold a "celebrity animal party" for Bubbles. Cheeta, the chimp from Tarzan, and Benji and Lassie were to be invited. The idea garnered much laughter from the media.

Bubbles lived at a ranch in Sylmar, California until 2004. "Bubbles is an adult chimp and a wild animal," animal trainer Bob Dunn stated. "We don't let him out to play." Jackson and his children used to visit the chimp, and also play with the other animals.
