ANKARA, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - A court in the Turkish province of Agri has sentenced a husband convicted of abusing his wife to six months of community service planting trees, local media said on Tuesday.
The court said planting trees would teach the man as a good lesson, the NTV channel reported.
The husband thanked the court for the mild sentence and promised to stop beating his wife of 12 years.
Earlier this week, a court in the southeast Turkey's city of Diyarbakir ordered a man charged with domestic violence to give his wife a bouquet of flowers once a week for the five months he will be on probation.
The man, who was accused of beating his 10-year-old son as well, must also read five books on how to raise children.
