Joy Behar and Ann Coulter Spar Over Sarah Palin

Conservative Ann Coulter was a guest on Joy Behar's new CNN Headline News show and the two sparred over a subject about which they both feel passionate: Sarah Palin. The subject of Palin came up during a discussion about the hysteria over so-called death panels, which Coulter acknowledges began from "one little Twitter from Sarah Palin" concluding that this makes Palin "a powerful woman."

Behar agreed with Coulter on this, but not for the same reasons. Behar suggested Palin does not speak coherently. Coulter thinks Palin draws large crowds in part because of her coherence.

Rightardia thinks the MILF factor has a great deal to do with Palin's appeal.

Tea Bagger event used old 2004 photos to create false impression of crowd size

Tea Party protesters trying to tout the size of their march on Washington last weekend have been passing around a photo of a packed National Mall. But the picture is years old.

Politifact asked Pete Piringer, public affairs officer for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Department, if the rally was big enough to fill that space. Piringer said no -- and moreover, the picture can't be from 2009.

"It was an impressive crowd," he said. But after marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol the crowd "only filled the Capitol grounds, maybe up to Third Street," he said.

Yet the photo showed the crowd sprawling far beyond that to the Washington Monument, which is bordered by 15th and and 17th Streets.

There's another big problem with the photograph: it doesn't include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth St. and Independence Ave. that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.)

That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn't show the "tea party" crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

Praise the Lord: Obama Gives Fiery Speech At AFL-CIO Labor Day Picnic

President Barack Obama addressed union workers and their families at the AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic at Coney Island in Cincinnati, Monday, Sept. 7, 2009. 

CINCINNATI — President Barack Obama declared Monday that modern benefits like paid leave, minimum wage and Social Security "all bear the union label," as he appealed to organized labor to help him win the health care fight in Congress.

"It was labor that helped build the largest middle class in history. So, even if you're not a union member, every American owes something to America's labor movement," said Obama, whose run for the presidency was energized in no small part by unions.

Obama asserted that "our recovery plan is working," but repeated that he won't be satisfied until jobs are much more plentiful.
Shortly after taking the oath, Obama confronted a rapidly deteriorating economy, a clogged credit system, failing or ailing banks and a a shaky stock market. He used his speech here to tick off a host of steps the administration has taken to steady the economy, and he made a special pitch for the health care overhaul he has pushed.

"We have never been this close," Obama said. "We have never had this broad an agreement on what needs to be done." He accused vested interests of trying to thwart it. Some union-circulated posters held up by audience members proclaimed, "Health Care Can't Wait."

Dean: "There Will Be Primaries" For Dems Who Vote Against Public Option

Former Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean fired one of the clearest warning shots at hesitant Democratic lawmakers on Thursday. He said that if the party was unable to produce a health care bill with a public plan, there would be electoral consequences.

Dean insists on Democratic discipline

"I do think there will be primaries as the result of all this, if the bill doesn't pass with a public option," Dean said, in a phone interview with the Huffington Post.
The former Vermont governor added the caveat that he thought "cooler heads" would ultimately prevail and that a government run option for insurance coverage would be passed.

Dean, who is a keynote speaker at the Netroots Nation conference at Pittsburgh this week. He was "in favor" of holding recalcitrant senators and congressman accountable on health care related issues.

Astroturfer leaves gun behind at Gabrielle Giffords' town hall meeting

Town hall Astroturfers have caiused some outbreaks of violence. Unions participating in town halls have received death threats. At an event held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) her aides had to call the police after one attendee dropped a gun.

"Yelling and screaming is counter-productive," she told the Sierra Vista Herald at a Congress on Your Corner event last week. There, one visitor dropped a gun at the meet n' greet held in a Douglas Safeway, her staff says.

Aides called police to the event who were concerned for her safety. "We have never felt the need before to notify law enforcement when we hold these events," said spokesman C.J. Karamargin.

One of the callers to the Service Employees International Union said, "I suggest you tell your people to calm down, act like American citizens, and stop trying to repress people's First Amendment rights... That, or you all are gonna come up against the Second Amendment."

Latino Group,Presente Action, going after conservatives who haven't denounced Limbaugh

A progressive Latino organization is set to begin airing ads on Spanish-language radio on the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Presente Action's asks member of GOP Congress to denounce statements Rush Limbaugh has made calling the Supreme Court nominee a "bigot and a racist."

Reps. Adam Putnam and John Mica, both Florida Republicans, are the first two targets. Neither has denounced Limbaugh, despite requests to do so. Putnam is retiring in 2010 to run for statewide office.

Putnam started his political career when Jeb Bush was governor and hails from an agriculatural area of Florida. He is extermely conservative.

That is: "Sonia Sotomayor is set to be the first Latina, and the first Puerto Rican, to serve on the US Supreme Court. It is a proud moment for our community. Yet Republican leaders insist on attacking her:"

Karl Rove deposed over US attorney firings

WASHINGTON — Former Bush White House politico Karl Rove was questioned by House Judiciary Committee lawyers Tuesday on any role he may have played in politically motivated firings of U.S. attorneys.

Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., confirmed Rove's closed-door appearance.

The committee has been seeking answers on who created the list of federal prosecutors who would lose their jobs. Conyers beleives the trail will lead to the White House. Former President George W. Bush asserted executive privilege for Rove and another White House lawyer, Harriet Miers.

An agreement was struck in March between Rove's lawyer and the committee for Rove, who was Bush's top political adviser, to testify on the prosecutors' firings, as well as the prosecution of former Democratic Gov. Don Siegelman of Alabama. Siegelman bleives that his prosecution was pushed by Republicans.

The agreement called for Rove to testify "under the penalty for perjury."

Nine U.S. attorneys were fired. An internal Bush Justice Department investigation concluded that political considerations played a part in at least four of the dismissals. Monica Goodling, a US government lawyer, used a secret conservative network to replace the fired attorneys with right wing attorneys.

Another 'Lucky Ducky' welfare recipient comes forward on health care

ANNANDALE, Va. — President Barack Obama hugged a cancer patient Wednesday  during an emotional forum on the nation's health care system.

Debby Smith, 53, of Appalachia, Va., a volunteer for Obama's political operation, fought tears as she told Obama about her kidney cancer and her inability to obtain health insurance or hold a job.She hit the big time because she was able to get food stamps.
