Sarah Palin thanks the Supremes

Sarah Palin thanked the Supreme Court and the Almighty after the high court ruled in favor of President Obama’s Affordable healthcare  law.

The former Alaska governor believes that the survival of the healthcare reform law will spell doom for Democrats in November.


Palin said: 

Thank you, SCOTUS. This Obamacare ruling fires up the troops as America’s eyes are opened. Thank God.

Meanwhile other conservatives are posting about moving to Canada which has a single payer medical system.

LATimes: Chief justice leads Supreme Court's support of healthcare law

The decision was a 5-4 vote, with the court's four liberal justices joining with the chief justice.

Chief Justice John Roberts,Jr.  agreed with the law's conservative critics who said Congress does not have the power to mandate the purchase of a private product such as health insurance.

Roberts explained the Affordable Care Act does not impose a true legal mandate on Americans. It simply requires those who do not have health insurance by 2014 to pay a tax penalty.

Roberts said:

The federal government does have the power to impose a tax on those without health insurance.

Who is getting political contributions from small donors?

Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens said that the Supremes have already had second thoughts on its controversial Citizens United ruling that eased restrictions on corporate spending in political campaigns.

Stevens, who dissented from the 2010 decision, said that at some point the court will issue an opinion "explicitly crafting an exception that will create a crack in the foundation" of Citizens United ruling.


Aside from criticizing the Citizens United decision, Stevens also mentioned the Bush v. Gore case after an audience member asked him about it.

"I think you have to have confidence that the justices will do their best to not make that same mistake again," he said to laughter and applause.

The 
Supreme court did, in fact, install Bush as president using civil rights law designed to protect minorities. 


Well, one per centers are minorities, aren't they? 


The Citizens United ruling was a blow to American democratic principals and will greatly help the GOP elect more plutocrats as president. 


The highest US court should be ashamed of these shabby rulings.

Rightardia suggest that any position that is a lifetime appointment is dangerous. The Supremes could be reformed in a variety of ways.

1. 10-year term limits with a national vote to retain for another 10 years
2. Add more judges to the court. We have had 7 judges since the US Constitution was written. 
3. Have specialization within the court: sub-courts for laws, bill of rights and elections, civil matters and criminal cases.

Clarence Thomas may be the worst Supreme Court justice in the modern history of the Supreme Court.

This was even before he forgot to disclose his wife's income from the Heritage Foundation.

Thomas rarely asks questions in court or writes legal opinions.

Legal Schnauzer: Disbarment complaint filed against Supreme Clarence Thomas

In a bar complaint filed with the Missouri Supreme Court, Protect Our Elections (POE) attorney Kevin Zeese says Supreme Clarence Thomas committed multiple violations of the Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct. (See full complaint below.) Zeese asks the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel to take immediate action against Thomas, including disbarment.

POE makes a compelling argument that Clarence Thomas has no business sitting on the U.S. Supreme Court:

A lawyer who commits a crime is subject to disbarment. A lawyer who fails to disclose important financial information as require by law is subject to disbarment. A lawyer who makes rulings on cases that will benefit himself and his wife is subject to disbarment. A Judge who commits 20 crimes by falsifying 20 disclosure forms in order to enrich himself and his family, as did Justice Thomas, is subject to disbarment. A lawyer who withholds information about a supporter when ruling on a case involving that support is subject to disbarment.

Justice Thomas violated the Rules of Professional Conduct: he committed crimes that carry serious jail time if prosecuted, he acted in a untrustworthy manner, his conduct involved dishonesty, deceit and misrepresentation, and he engaged in conduct that seriously interfered with the administration of justice. Therefore, he must be disciplined.

If Thomas were to lose his law license, it would set the stage for formal impeachment proceedings. It is unlikely the Republican controlled house would impeach Thomas.

Likewise, the Justice Department could charges against Thomas. If he was convicted of a a felony,  it would be hard for him to remain on the Supreme Court.

Regardless, Democrats should be calling for this worthless justice to resign. Thomas has not asked a question during oral argument during the last five years.

The creep who became a Supreme

Clarence Thomas is probably the worst person to ever be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice. He rarely expresses a legal opinion because he doesn't want to be ridiculed for judicial incompetence. 

He is he GOP poster boy for Affirmative Action. 

It is clear that he has some serious interpersonal problems that will be revelaed shortly 

Lillian McEwen, his former girlfriend,  said she knew the real  Clarence Thomas'
"personality structure.”

She said he kept a stack of pornographic magazines, “frequented a store on Dupont Circle that catered to his needs,” and allowed his interest in pornography to bleed into his professional relationships.

Clarence Thomas should be impeached. We need better attorneys than this man on the Supreme Court.

Washington Post: Large majority opposes Supreme Court's decision on campaign financing

All hail the Supremes

Americans of both parties overwhelmingly oppose a Supreme Court ruling that allows corporations and unions to spend as much as they want on political campaigns. Most Americans favor new limits on such spending, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Eight in 10 poll respondents say they oppose the high court's Jan. 21 decision to allow uncontrolled corporate political spending, with 65 percent "strongly" opposed. Nearly as many backed congressional action to curb the ruling, with 72 percent in favor of reinstating limits.

The poll reveals relatively little difference of opinion on the issue among Democrats (85 percent opposed to the ruling), Republicans (76 percent) and independents (81 percent).

The results suggest a strong reservoir of bipartisan support on the issue for President Obama and congressional Democrats, who are crafting legislation aimed at limiting the impact of the high court's decision. Likely proposals include banning participation in U.S. elections by government contractors, bank bailout recipients or companies with more than 20 percent foreign ownership.

Does this mean corporate money is going to even further weaken the power of political parties and candidates? Will political parties cease to be important? How will this affect issues? 

 

Remember that six of the largest health insurers in the US funded TV ads that attacked the healthcare reform bills in Congress --and the ads were reportedly placed by the US Chamber of Commerce.

Here comes the judge

As the White House works on  policy goals, liberal activists say one critical element of Obama's agenda has slipped through the cracks: judicial confirmations for appellate and district courts.

Only three of the president's 23 nominations for federal judgeships have been confirmed. Obama's attempts to ease partisan tensions have only emboldened Senate Republicans: The Washington Post reports that anonymous holds and filibuster threats from the GOP have have "slowed the proceedings to a crawl."

Republicans, however, say the president isn't carrying his share of the judiciary
burden. In the same period that Obama has named 23 nominees, President George W. Bush forwarded 95.

Caseloads are beginning to clog the federal judicial system, with 10 percent of judicial seats remaining vacant in appeals and district courts. An Obama spokesman said the White House will pick up the pace soon.

During the Bush era, the federal court were stacked with conservative judges who have little sympathy for discrimination against women, older employees and minorities. This trend needs to reversed as quickly as possible.

Daily Beast: Senate to Vote on Sotomayor today

Sonia Sotomayor's moment has arrived: The United States Senate is set to vote on her nomination to the United States Supreme Court today. Three-quarters of Republicans have indicated that they will oppose her, but with Democrats voting en bloc, she will be confirmed.

Here comes the judge!

A couple more Republicans also indicated that they'd vote affirmative.
Judd Gregg of New Hampshire spoke out against politicizing the
confirmation process, while Kit Bond of Missouri said, "There's been no
significant finding against her, there's been no public uprising against
her. I will support her."

GOP Sen. Judd Gregg To Vote For Sotomayor

WASHINGTON — Republican New Hampshire senator Sen. Judd Gregg says he'll vote for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, breaking with most of his fellow Republicans. Republican Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri will also vote for Sotomayor.

Nearly three-quarters of the Senate's Republicans have said they'll vote against Sotomayor, including all but one of the party's leaders. She is expected to be easily confirmed in a vote expected as early as Thursday.

The NRA is also opposed to Sotomayor although the judge has never made a ruling that pertained to firearms.
