Job options for a smart young Democrat

Rightardia has noticed a lot of intelligent and gifted people posting on our FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/rightardia?fref=ts or go to FB and search for Eric Elder. If you want to be "friended," you will have to be referred to by someone with friend" status on this page. Or leave a comment on this blog.

My advice to a smart young person graduating from high school or college is to start your own business or work for the government or in the public sector.

Working for most corporations in the USA is pointless. Most underpay workers, offer marginal benefits and no retirement.

By no retirement, Rightardia means that a 401K is not a retirement option. In fact, the 401 K was originally designed for affluent people and became a marginal savings plan for other Americans.

Don't waste your time working for a soulless corporation. Start a business or work for the government. Although this may be a tough row to hoe in the beginning, in the long run you will come out ahead.

Let the Republican stooges, lackeys, corporate running dogs  and sycophants work for the corporations. They will get their just rewards, too.

Rightardia has moved over to FaceBook

During the 2112 election, cycle, Rightardia noticed a lot of activity on its Facebook page. Most of our political posts are now found on FB.

Although we still do some political posting here, you are more likely to find orginal articles on the Veterans Administration or tech topics in the blog.

The Rightrdia FB page has around 600 friends and followers and we would have even more if we weren't so particular and who we friend.

The Rightardia FB page is not a debate page.  Rightrdia and Rightard Whitey got bored with debating right wing trolls and idiots on Usenet, so we don't allow any of that riffraff on our FB page.

As our FB banner states, "Never waste time with people who have no interest in you point of view. "

Conservative Trolls are there to proselytize you or to disrupt your blog. They are not interested in real debate.

If you have worked in Organizing for America (OFA), you probably know that the volunteers do not call Republicans.

Why? Because you are unlikely to make any headway with an an ideologue.

In addition, there are far more Democrats than Republicans and the Democratic base in increasing while the GOP bas is declining.

The bottom line is that the Democrats don't need Republicans to win elections. We just need to turn out the Democratic base. Sometimes that is easier said than done particularly when the Republican Party is doing everything it can to make it harder to vote.

Making FB secure

A Facebook account  account is essentially a semi-private account on a public FB server. Can it be made completely secure? Probably not.

First of all, you have to make your cable modem, wireless router and operating system secure. If you have security vulnerabilities here, your FB account will never be secure.

If you aren't ready for these steps, move to the Facebook account settings of this article. 

Starting with the cable modem, set it up for bridge mode or DMZ host. This will keep the cable company out of your network altogether. Many cable companies have opened up their firewalls to the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America who can easily monitor any movies or songs you or your family download from point-to-point  (P2P) networks like torrents.

Then upgrade your router or uy a router that is compatible or DD-WRT firmware on it.  This third party firmware will keep the local and state police out of your wireless network as long as you use at least a 12 to 16 digit wireless password with upper case and lower case letters numbers and special characters such as Randumpasw8rd!. Turn off WPS and WPA security. Only use WPA2 security with AES encryption. Do not use any pins for quick wireless access except on a short time basis like a weekend OFA rally.

If you can, do no use wireless at all. Use a wired Internet connection or a powerline adapter that runs over you electrical system. I have had very good luck with the Netgear Powerline V200 adapter and even run NetFlix using one.

You may have to hire someone to configure the router and the cable modem.

Microsoft has many unadvertised vulnerbnabilites and backdoors and NSA is well aware of them. Do not use Microsoft Windows for browsing the Internet. Try Linux. Centos 6 is the best release Rightrdia has seen to date. We also like Linux Mint. Make sure you apply all of the security patches after installation and enable the firewall. There is also a free anitvirus program called Avast for Linux that we recommend. See http://www.avast.comu/linux-home-edition

Update: Also, use the Linux search engine, Duck, Duck, Go (DDG) instead of Google or Bing. DDG uses the secure protocol HTTTPS for searches and does not archive your searches either. Law enforcement will not be able to recover your search data.

If you recall the Casey Anthony case, the prosecuting attorney suggested that Ms. Anthony had searched on the Internet for instructions on howto make chloroform.  Rightardia thought this assertion was implausible.

Now that you have hardened your network . . .

Onto to Facebook

First look at your account settings | Security

Make sure that secure browsing is enabled. You may want to enable login approvals if you are using a browser other than Chrome. Apps like Xbox, Spotify and Skype can also be given app passwords. These are additional levels of security.

Your Privacy seeing must be done correctly or you will have serious problems. However, the more restrictive you make privacy, the smaller your FB circle will be.

Notice you have some options here: friends  friends except acquaintances, custom and only close Friends. Chose carefully!

Custom has some extra options:

You can select only friends  Friends of Friends or a use a list  Notice you can also disable sharing from your posts that are tagged. You also have a blacklist option: Don't share with these people or lists.

Please note some other important options:

Suggest only friends should be able to get your email address and phone number. If you want to keep your page as private as possible, do not allow other search engines to link to your timeline.

Also, start using blocking to rid your FB account of pests, trolls and Lotharios. You can block app requests, event invites and app invites.

In summary you must make your home network and PC secure in order to make FB secure, You must make a simple change to your cable modem, a complex change to your home router that may require a new DD-WRT compatible  router; and also  make your wireless network more secure. Disable wireless access if you can browse over Ethernet: wired or powerline.

Update 2: Now you need to install Virtual Private Networking (VPN) software on your OS. fFnd a VPN service that has servers in Canada. The Canadians will to respond to any US John Doe subpoenas from law enforcement. Recommend Private Tunnel OpenVPN or BTGuard.

Once the VPN is up and working, you will be browsing over a encrypted Internet tunnel with a Canadian IP address. You will be invisible to the local and state law enforcement agencies.

Editorial: Rightardia encounters a birther

A birther was on the Rightrdia Facebook page page last night: Rightardia Facebook page

A man named Vince was posting stuff about Obama being born in Kenya. Obama was born in Honolulu and his birth announcement was in two newspapers. He has released both short form and long form (COLB) birth certificate. In addition, Obama was born in 1961. Kenya didn't exist until 1963.

Vince stated that Obama's dad was African.That is true but all that would suggest at best is that Obama could qualify for dual citizenship. However, the president meets all of the requirements for US citizenship, for sure.

It appears the same person said to one of the female posters ‎"It really gets tiring to see you demonizing white people at every turn. and made references to "White, Jewish, Feminine," opinion.

I don't think the Rightrdia Facebook web page has such a venue. If it did, few women would be here. We have more than 200 female friends and acquaintances. There are more women than men which is the opposite of the Rightardia blog. Most of the blog reder ae male and and 45 + in age. Recently we started to  attract some younger viewers.

The surprising thing about Vince was he was not the standard under-educated ditto head. He had attended school in the mid-west and had a civil engineering background.

Many engineers disparage people with arts and sciences backgrounds, but it was clear Vince needed some of these courses under his belt. He didn't grasp the economic basis of the economic stimulus. The Europeans didn't follow Keynesian principals and their austerity programs failed.

Vince then posted a picture of Nancy Pelosi with her grandchildren and stated if she had it her way they would all be dead because Nancy is pro-choice. What is the point of such a hateful post about a women's right to choose?

Vince blew in with another person that had been friended on Facebook. I clicked on his name to go to his Facebook profile and noticed he was listed as a Facebbok subscriber. Rightardia doesn't allow subscribers. But by unsubscribing Vince, I got rid of this pest.

It is interesting but most conservatives don't advertise that fact on their Facebook pages. Conservatives usually appear apolitical. Liberals.progressives and Democrats more often advertise their party affiliation or it is apparent in the organizations they are members of.

Perhaps conservatives are embarrassed for being Republican. The GOP has certianly become a gnarly political party.

Facebook and Twitter Merge Into 'Hudld"

LUBBOCK, Texas, March 14, 2012 -- 

The new app for your iPhone, Hudld, that combines Twitter and Facebook into one
timeline, has seen a lot of growth since its launch just over a week ago. This is mainly attributed to its "buzz"
across social channels such as Twitter and Facebook over the past week.

When the online tech news agency Mashable.com picked up the story, the chatter picked up quite a bit.
Resulting in just over 600 "shares" coming directly from Mashable's site within a couple of hours. During that timeframe, Hudld was the 6th most mentioned word on Twitter within a 3-hour time span.

According to Brian Ash, head of SanctumSoft, the startup that released Hudld, "We never expected such a wide range of adoption from the social community in such a short period of time.

Of course you love to see it, but reality told us to brace for slow growth. Given the release of the iPad 3 andthe annual SXSW events, we assumed Hudld would be a low priority in the headlines for the tech world. Thankfully,we've seen a much different response."

Hudld is expected to release versions in the near future that will drastically increase the usability for its
clients. The addition of Google+ and LinkedIn were mentioned. Also, the next major update is said to include an RSS / news feature, along with an overhaul of the direct messages feature and the addition of Facebook chat.

The coming update in review enables people to turn the ads off, fixes a few kinks, and addresses the issue of the "small font" voiced by some of early its adopters.

Though the numbers for app metrics are closely guarded by their publishers, it is known that Hudld is seeing numbers at least north of 10,000. Typically, at this point in a launch, apps in the social networking category see about 1/25th of that in a good scenario, so obviously there is something to this new little app.

Hudld isn't perfect; in fact, Brian had mentioned that "it's technically a beta release, we're just trying to gauge what the users want to see next, and how we need to format those changes as we roll them out." From the surface, it appears to be just another client aggregate, but dig a bit deeper,and you can see the possibilities and plans for expansion are quite vast.

All things considered, t his is the first version that can be seen now, but some "sneak peeks" reveal much more robust app is on its way. Hudld is definitely something to watch in the coming days.

Blooger now has a share option and Rightardia can cross post to both Twitter and Facebook. We hope booger kppts up with Hudid because the ability to efficiently cross post to multiple sites is great.

So far we have been unable to find out any additional information on Hudid.

NLRB comes down in favor of employees on Facebook

One again the National labor Relations Board has ruled in favor of workers when it comes to the use of Facebook.

Workers for the Buffalo non-profit Hispanics United of Buffalo had an exchange on a wall regarding an allegation that clients weren’t receiving enough help.

Responses to the allegation included workers complaining about staffing and work loads. Five workers were fired on terms they were harassing the individual who had posted the original comment.

On Wednesday, the NLRB ruled the employer was wrong in firing the workers and that their speech on the social networking site is protected.

This is the second time the labor board has ruled on such a case, but is said Wednesday they have many similar complaints waiting for a hearing.

Last November the board ruled in favor of an employee who had criticized a supervisor on her Facebook wall. As a result the employee was fired, resulting in the NLRB filing a complaint against American medical Response of Connecticut.

The board said in that case that the workers having a conversation on Facebook was akin to employees hanging out and discussing a supervisor at the water cooler. Specifically, the NLRB called both cases “concerted activity” due to the involvement of multiple employees in the wall discussion.

Had John Mccain been elected, thew decision would have been against the employees because the GOP fills the NLRB with corporate stooges who look the other other way in cases of corporate misconduct.

More Republican Obama racism in Florida

More Republican Obama racism surfaced in Pinellas County, Florida today. This time someone in the Pinellas GOP photoshopped a picture of Presidnet Obama in white face. It was the face of Keith Ledger's "The Joker" in the last Batman movie.

Two pictures were broadcast on Channel 10, WTSP, Tampa Bay.
