"Five years ago today, a few thousand of us gathered in Springfield, Illinois, to launch an improbable campaign for president.

The task was to build a grassroots movement capable of making the kind of change we believe in.

You've got to see this video about that journey -- it will make you smile.

From the very start this has been an experiment in our political process, testing whether ordinary people really can still come together to change this country.

We proved that it's possible. But we've also learned that entrenched interests adapt and claw back even harder, which means this election will be even more of a challenge.

The Democratic Party now runs America

We are the leaders of the this great country and we don't need to be apologetic about it. It is better to kick some ass and to take some names to move forward. We are the true heirs of the United States. We defeated the GOP oligarchs who thought they owned America and sent them packing.

Democratic presidents defeated the Central Powers in World War 1 and the Axis Powers in World War 2. Democratic leaders brought this country through the Great Depression and we will take America through the Great Recession. We created the Social Security and Medicare programs and we are about to embark on a national health care initiative.

The Democratic party wants to strengthen the US infrastructure and rebuild the roads, bridges and levees. We want to better educate Americans. We want more international diplomacy and less war. We want to lead America into the 21^st century that provides opportunity for everyone.

We are the Democrats. We are not beholden to corporations or the affluent. We are beholden to you, the average American. The Democrats are back and we are bigger and better. We will fix America. You can count on it! We are the party of 'yes we can,' not the 'Party of No.” Get ready for the ride of you life.
