It's a conservative racket says Bill Maher

Rush has become a billionaire with near content-less right wing rants.

Rush will take a core idea that Medicare is bad because a Medicare recipient had to travel two hours for an MRI.

He hyper-generalize about this single complaint and suggest the whole Medicare system needs to be thrown out because one person is unhappy.

His ditto head sheeple eat this stuff up although Rush's audience has been shrinking for years.

Glen Becks latest shtick is he was to create a Whitopia housing development for like-thinking conservatives.

Bill Maher blog : Whack-a-Mole Accounting

By Bill Maher

No one seems to be talking about how “putting our financial house in order” and “slashing the federal budget,” while sounding good on the surface, simply transfers responsibility to provide critical entitlements to the states.

Go ahead, cut education, federal funding for municipal projects, Medicaid, food stamps and unemployment benefits. That may make you feel like you’re striking a blow for “ending the culture of dependency,” but kids still have to learn, aging classrooms still need to be renovated, books still need to be bought, teachers still need to be paid, bridges and roads still need to be built and repaired, and poor and out-of-work people will still get sick and hungry and need diapers. Having the feds stop paying to solve these problems doesn’t make the problems go away; it just transfers the onus of solving these problems to the states. The good news: Paul Ryan has reduced your federal income tax responsibility to 10%. The bad news: your state government now needs 55%.

Or do they? Maybe the federal government can stop paying for these things and states run by Republican governors and legislatures can finally start governing based on the cherished conservative principle of “Fuck you, every man for himself.”

Writing for the AP, Carla K. Johnson and Kelli Kennedy point out that many Republican-run states are refusing to abide by the part of Obamacare that shifts Medicaid responsibility to the states. Out of one side of their mouths, they demand federal cuts and out of the other they refuse to pick up the slack.

The national health law calls for individuals to be covered at an income under $15,400 and a family of four at an income under $30,650 – but that’s too generous for a few southern states. According to the AP, “In South Carolina, a yearly income of $16,900 is too much for Medicaid for a family of three. In Florida, $11,000 a year is too much. In Mississippi, $8,200 a year is too much. In Louisiana and Texas, earning more than just $5,000 a year makes you ineligible for Medicaid.”

More from the AP story: “Medicaid now covers an estimated 70 million Americans and would cover an estimated 7 million more in 2014 under the Obama health law's expansion. In contrast, Ryan's plan could mean 14 million to 27 million Americans would ultimately lose coverage, even beyond the effect of a repeal of the health law, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation of Ryan's 2011 budget plan.”

And it’s hardly premium coverage. Medicaid sucks and most doctors refuse to even treat patients on it. It’s so shitty you’d be better off with an actual safety net. Should poor people just go fuck themselves?

Bill Maher's BLOGGA PLEASE: Mission: Failure

By Bill Maher

Obviously, last month’s jobs report sucked. Only 69,000 new jobs were created – about half what economists expected – and the worst number in a year. The economy has to create about 120,000 jobs every month just to keep up with the increase in population.

That’s just the hard data. But here’s how I know the news was really bad: Republicans on TV could barely contain their smiles. To them, an economy back in the shitter means only one thing: “Woo hoo! President Romney!”

The biggest problem they have with this jobs report is that 69,000 jobs created is 69,000 too many.

Since day one, Republicans have cock-blocked any effort to create jobs. They tried to filibuster the stimulus – one thing that did create a ton of jobs – even though roughly one third of it was tax cuts. They filibustered last summer’s American Jobs Act. They took the government hostage over the debt ceiling, which led to our credit rating being lowered and destroyed any potential for recovery last summer.

This is worse than rooting for failure – it’s ensuring failure. People don’t like it when I bring up the “t word” – treason – but I haven’t heard any convincing arguments suggesting Republicans have done anything but try to thwart efforts to create jobs since Obama became president.

We know where the worst job losses are coming from: the public sector. We could hire back the 300,000 teachers who lost their jobs because of the recession right now . . .

Baill Maher revisits American exceptionalism

In na Overtime segment, Bill Maher argued that America would be wise to drop the notion of “American exceptionalism.”

In the past, Maher has criticized politicians like Mitt Romney for their constant praise of the United States without any acknowledgement of the country's faults.

Rightrdia looks as American exceptionalism as a form of Jingoism.  Colloquially, jingoism refers to excessive bias in judging one's own country as superior to others which is an an extreme type of nationalism.

Jingoism is extreme is patriotism in the form of aggressive foreign policy. Sound familiar?

In practice, jingoism is a country's advocation of the use of threats or actual force against other countries in order to safeguard what it perceives as its national interests.

G W Bush is a good example of where jingoism can take a country with his unjustified invasion of Iraq.

HBO's Real time with Bill Maher, May 25, 2012

Bill Maher's Panel:

Michelle Bernard is the CEO of The Bernard Center for Women, Politics, & Public Policy.  Earlier this month, she wrote about her belief that "marriage is a basic civil right."

Paul Krugman is the author of End This Depression Now! and a columnist for The New York Times. Yesterday, he called out Wall Streeters for being "spoiled brats...with immense power and wealth at their disposal." Rightardia featured quotes form Krugman's editorial.

Arthur Laffer is a former economic advisor to President Ronald Regan and author of EUREKA! How to Fix California. In a recent op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, he argued that states should abolish their income tax. Laffer is one of the economists who advocates supply side economics.

Comedian Kevin Nealon from Weeds was also on the show.

CS Monitor: Rush Limbaugh vs. Bill Maher: Which one's words were worse?

"Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has landed in big trouble for calling Georgetown University Law School student Sandra Fluke harsh names. But has liberal comedian Bill Maher escaped unscathed despite doing pretty much the same thing to other women?
That’s the charge some conservatives are making as the Limbaugh-Fluke flap enters its second week. They’re demanding that President Obama call on the "super PAC" that supports him to refuse a $1 million donation from Maher."
Conservative activist Penny Nance, executive director of Concerned Women for America, said:
Mr. Obama needs to publicly disassociate himself from Priorities USA [super PAC] and cease all further fundraising in support of the organization, until they return Mr. Maher’s contribution immediately>

Here we go again comparing apples to oranges. Bill Maher is a real wit, comedian and humorist while Limbaugh is a bellicose exaggerator who rarely says anything funny.

Comparing Maher to Rush is like comparing a Mercedes to a Yugo.

Rush is on Talk Radio and Maher is on HBO which means you would have to have cable to even see Maher's show.

Rightardia hope Ms. Nance doesn't hold her breath waiting for Obama to return Maher's contribution.

Newsy: Limbaugh's 'Slut' Comments Inflame Critics

March 2, 2012 (2:35)

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh called a third-year Georgetown law student a "slut" in a broadcast rant against mandated contraception coverage.

Mediate was wondering why Greta Van Susterin hadn't called out Rush Limbaugh because Van Susterin pounced on Ed Schultz and Bill Maher for similar slurs directed toward conservative women.

President Obama weighed in on the incident today and called the student to console her.

Limbaugh really crossed the line this time and Rightdia suspects Rush will lose a lot of advertisers over the sexist slur.

Limbaugh has been making outrageous comments for years to increase listenership. Rightardia stopped following his outbursts because they were predictable and  frequent. This outburst is one that will not be overlooked.

Rush fooled in where angels fear to tread.

FOD: Tim Tebow: God's gift to football

By DAN ABRAMSON

Football now has a messiah, Tim Tebow. Unfortunately, he's not quite perfect losing two games in a row.

Tebow's Broncos were recently humiliated 40-14 by the Buffalo Bills, a 6-9 team.

It's hard to be humble, when God's quarterback is on your team.

Bill Maher tweeted the following about the loss to Buffalo:

Wow, Jesus just f**ked #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler ‘Hey, Buffalo’s killing them.”

Florida needs Alan Grayson back in Congress

Alan Grayson was one of the few Democrats in congress willing to call out the GOP corporatists in Congress. Alan has cojones, unlike some of fellow corporocrats, republicrats and Blue Dog Democrats.

Maybe you’ve seen it already. 500,000 people have.

The week before last, Alan Grayson appeared on HBO, onReal Time with Bill Maher. The subject was Occupy Wall Street. Some of Bill’s guests mocked the Occupy Wall Street protesters, complaining they didn’t know what the protest was all about.

Grayson had a different point of view:

Grayson: Let me tell what they're talking about. They're complaining about the fact that Wall Street wrecked the economy three years ago, and nobody's been held responsible for that. Not a single person has been indicted or convicted, for destroying twenty percent of our national net worth, accumulated over two centuries. They're upset about the fact that Wall Street has iron control over the economic policies of this country, and that one party is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wall Street, and the other party caters to them as well. That's the truth of the matter, as you [Bill] have said before. And . . . .

P.J. O'Rourke: Get the man a bongo drum, they've found their spokesman!

Grayson: If I . . .

P.J. O'Rourke: Get your shoes off, get a bongo drum, forget where to go to the bathroom, and it's yours.

Grayson: If I am the spokesman for all the people who think we should NOT have 24 million people in this country who can't find a full-time job; that we should NOT have 50 million people who can't see a doctor when they're sick; that we should NOT have 47 million people of this country who need government help to feed themselves; and that we should NOT have 15 million families who owe more on their mortgage than the value of home, OK, I'll be that spokesman.

In less than a minute, Alan Grayson articulated what so many observers had been groping for, since the Occupy Wall Street movement started: the sense of what’s gone wrong, and the urgent need to do something about it.
  1. Wall Street has created and perpetuated a system of enormous inequality.
  2. That system caused The Crash, and no one has been punished for it.
  3. Wall Street perpetuates that system through iron control of our political process.
  4. The result is pervasive suffering: joblessness, homelessness, illness, poverty and even hunger.
That’s why it’s Occupy Wall Street, not Occupy Grant’s Tomb.

And Alan Grayson has the insight and the courage to say that.

Which is why it is so important that we help Alan Grayson return to Congress. And why we need your support today. The whole world is watching.

And that’s why that short video clip from Bill Maher’s show has been passed round and round. Last week, it was the fifth most-watched news video in the world. All the different versions that have been posted on YouTube are approaching 500,000 views, with more on Facebook.

The breakdown is 4098 “likes,” and 68 “dislikes.” Which proves that we really are “the 99%.” Or at least 98.4%.

And the first small step is to take back the House from the special interests who bought it in 2010, and give Alan Grayson the chance to make a difference for all of us. Click here, help our campaign, and you’ll make a difference, too.
