Dancing with the Stars winner was predicatable

The Las Vegas odds makers got the finish right. Donald Driver finished first and was followed by Katherine Jenkins. William Levy was third.

Don't fret that you finished second, Katherine. Rightardia suspects some big opportunities will be coming her way.

There were five great teams this season. Roshon Fagin /Chelsea Hightower and Maria Menounus/Derek Hough were excellent teams that could have easily finished in the top three.

Next season Dancing with the Stars will have an all star competition. Mario Lopez has said he has been invited. Will he go? Hope so.


These are the people we would like to see in the All Star show: Apolo Anton Ohno , Hélio Castroneves, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brooke Burke, Gilles Marini, Donny Osmond, Mýa, Donny Osmond, Nicole Scherzingerm, Erin Andrews, Jennifer Grey, and Ricki Lake.

We hope Marie Osmond an Bristol Palin aren't invited back because neither one is that hot of a dancer. 

Rightardia has some ideas on how to determine the winners in the next season. First there are two types of learning curves:

Some people learn quickly as with the dotted line, peak and then never get beyond a certain level. Other people represented by the solid line learn slower but end up at a higher level of performance. Obviously, some of the people who don't have much dance experience won't start to peak until mid-season.

In this respect, the winners in the first half of the season are unimportant.


But all of the dancers need to stay competitive enough so they aren't eliminated in the fist five or six weeks.

Another issue is the judges rate objectively until the semi-finals and finals,

In the semi-finals, the team with a perfect judges score was eliminated and the team with the lowest score progressed. Arrrgh, partisan viewers! We saw this last season, too.


The judges rated three dances in the finals, two on Monday and one today. 

One team had 90 points and the other two had 89. Essentially, the judges scores in the finals were irrelevant because all three team were scored nearly identically.


The viewers will end up pick the winners. Rightardia has some ideas on how to figure that out, too.


The best dance in the finals was performed by Daniel Driver/Peta Murgatroyd with a country dance. Cowboy Troy provided live music. It was cool.

Does the Dancing with the Stars odds make any sense?

How do you explain this? 

New Las Vegas Odds for this week:

Donald Driver 3/2
Katherine Jenkins 7/4
William Levy 19/10

Rightardia suspects the oddmakers are privy to viewer voting.

It is our impression that Jenkins should finish first followed by Donald Driver and William Levy in third place if this were a real dance contest.

Predictably, the judges rated everyone within one point last night defaulting to a viewer pick.

Although Katerine Jenkins is the best dancer, she is from the UK and is unlikely to have a strong following in the US. William Levy is relatively unknown, but a NFL player like Driver is more well known.

Drivers' country dance last night was outstanding and he used his strength to an advantage.

Wisconisn will be voting for Driver so the cheesehead vote will probably make Driver the winner.

Of course, Rightardia muffed the results in the semis, so one never knows.

Is Dancing with the Stars Fixed?

Tuesday the Dancing with the Stars results were shocking. One of the teams that finished first on the leaderboard on Monday with a near perfect 59/60 points was eliminated. The team with lowest score made it through to the finals.

How is this possible?

Even more curious, Good Morning America predicted one of the male contestants would win. How would they know?

A lot of the objectivity dropped off DWTS when Bristol Palin became a contestant. Apparently, there was a desire on the part of the show's producers to make sure she went on tour.

DWTS does not publish viewer ratings, but apparently this information is available to the odds makers and some media people.

Rightardia looked at the dances of .Maria Menounos, Kathrine Jenkins, William Levy and Donald Driver. Peta Murgatroyd, Donald 's partner, thought they were finished but apparently Donald's NFL fans saved the day.

In Rightardia's opinion, the first three should have made it through and Donald Driver should have gone home. Driver simply doesn't have the body flexibility to be a great dancer. He should be destined to finish third next week.

In fact, Rightradia thought that  Roshon Fegan  was a better dancer than Donald Driver, but he is young and still building a fan base. Fegan was eliminated two weeks ago.

The real problem is that the judges aren't rating the contestants correctly in the semis. Almost all of the ratings in the semi-finals were 9s or 10s. This means the fans make the pick and unfortunately the dance fans seem to have been rather clueless in the past two or three seasons.

Once the semifinals start, each judge should be given four cards for each round with a 7, and 8, a 9 and 10. After all four dancers complete a set, they should be rated from top to bottom.This means that after two rounds the lowest rating would have around 42 points and the top dancer would have around 60.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke 59/60

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough 59/60

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd 57/60

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas  56/60

Three points separated the leader from the low scorer.



Shame on the judges. No wonder the finals have been controversial for the past three seasons.

One other comment. Rightrdia was surprised when the pro dancers were interviewed and they were asked about the contestants who weren't their partners. Cheryl Burke noted that Maria Menounos was injured , but that Derk Hough would push her on to finish the competition regardless of her injuries.

Rightardia perceives Maria Menounos as a fierce competitor, We never got the impression that Derek was manipulating her to stay in the competition.

We saw Derek and Maria on Good Morning America and they were both gracious and positive about last night's outcome.

There is no point in crying about spilt milk, but we hope the judges start doing their jobs next season by rating the dancers more objectively in the semi-finals.

Well, it could happen.

Regardless, Derek and Maria were the real winners. It is shame we could not see them dance one more time next week.

Dancing with the Stars: Classic Week

Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) Classic week is interesting because it is one of the few shows on mainstream TV that ever really deals with the classical music, ballet and opera.

Cable TV is now populated with shows like Axemen, Louisiana Swamp Idjits and Doomsday Preppers.

The main problems with this years DWTS classic week was the choice of music. Some of the pieces were barely danceable, but oddly Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" made it onto the show.

Team Derak and Maria

The Derek Hough-Maria Menounos paso doble was outstanding and certainly the best dance of the season and perhaps in the entire series. We did find a rehearsal video and should be able to get the actual dance by tomorow. Derek and Maria got the first perfect 30 of the season. Not bad for a difficult dance like the paso.

Rightrdia also enjoyed seeing little Jackie Evancho, the classical opera singer, who came in second on America's Got Talent.

Who will win DWTS?

Rightardia thinks Ricky Lake will win

Rob Kardashian got his first perfect store last night with his partner, Cheryl Burke, and ended up first on the leader board--another first.

Ricky Lake looked good but Derek Hough's choreography wasn't up to his normal high standards.

JR Martinez appear to be struggling with his ankle. Karina Smirnoff wants the Mirror Bill and was doing her best to help her partner. It was hard to watch JR when Karina is "working it."

Some of the Rightardia staff think the war hero status of JR will carry him into first place with the viewer vote.

However, Ricki Lake still has a lot of followers from her talk show days.

Rightardia doubts that Rob Kardashian has the number of followers the other two contestants have.

We would expect Ricky Lake and Derek Hough to win. This season has been full or surprises. One more is in store for DWTS.

Update: Although Ricki and Derk did the best in the initial dance of the night, the viewers eliminated the couple.

Rightardia saw a preview of the Jimmy Kimmel show and JR was on it. We don't know if he was on as the winner or for second place.

Usually the weekly loser goes on the Kimmel show.

No surprises on DWTS

Hope leaves to prepare for Olympic soccer

As expected, Hope Solo and Maksim were eliminated last night. We think their elimination may have had a lot to do with the animus between the judges and Maksim. Sometimes the judges like Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodmen take themselves too seriously. Bruno seems to have the right attitude as a judge.

Hope Solo also pointed out that the DWTS dancers are athletes. She broke the code.

The dancers are the true stars of the show.

Rightardia would expect Ricki Lake to win because Derek Hough is the best choreographer on the show and Ricki Lake looked great in the semi-finals.

The big question is JR Martinez's twisted ankle. If he cannot recover form his injury, he will finish third and Rob Kardashian will finish second.

JR could also finish first if he can recover quickly! However, Karina Smirnoff is not the choreographer that Derek Hough is.

Big surprises on DWTS semi-finals

Jr Martinez twisted an ankle and had a bad night.

Hope Solo and Maksim did perform well in the first dance but  it appears that they will probably be eliminated tomorrow after the viewers vote. The judges act as if they want Maks and Hope off of the show.

The judges rated Hope's first dance a seven which is unprecedented in the semis. Hope also got  the lowest rating in the relay dance which was a cha-cha.

Rightardia thinks something is going on between Maks and the judges. Mak's other problem is choreography, which is not his strong suit.  .

Rightardia thought nether JR nor Rob Kardashian did well in the relay dance. Rob was rated second in the relay. Rob did do extremely well with Cheyrl Burke in the opening dance.

Ricky Lake performed the best dances of the night with a samba and tango. Lake appears set to win the competition unless JR can recover from his injury.

We would expect Rob Kardashian to finish third. However, Burke is an excellent choreographer so who knows?

Certainly over the course of the season, Rob is the most improved dancer.

We have noticed that many of the dancers have had a great week followed by an off week. JR and Ricki have been the most consistent dancers.

We expect the finals to be as surprising as the semis were tonight.

Ding, dong, the wicked witch is gone on DWTS

Nancy Grace got a well-deserved boot tonight. She was in the bottom feeders circle with Rob Kardashian.

The vote tonight suggests Hope Solo could finish is third place or better. Hope has gotten her second wind. While Hope  has improved greatly, the gracious Ricki Lake appears to be fading.

It is likely JR Matinez will win the competition, followed in second place by Hope Solo or Ricki Lake. We would expect Rob Kardashian to be eliminated next week.

Rightardia was happy to see Grace leave. She could barely hold back her hostility from the facade she maintains. Nancy Grace seems to be a very angry person.

The only other contestant Rightardia has had such a visceral response for is Kate Gosselin, who seemed to have even a nastier personality.

People we would like to see on DWTS next season

Dancing with the stars has had plenty of conservatives such as Tom Delay, Tucker Carlson and Bristol Palin, but not big Democrats or progressives. Our first choice would be the the Ragin' Cajun, James Carville. Keith Olbermann and Harold Ford, jr. would also be good choices.

On the right, the shrill Anne Coulter would certainly stir ratings. But can she dance?

In the political middle, there is Meghan Mccain. She is a beautiful women who could lose a few pounds. The show would be good for her.

How about a handsome hockey players from Canada. There are plenty of them.

Landon Donovan, is a major league soccer player from the US. He would be a great addition to the show  too.

Emily Van Camp from the TV series , Vengeance, is gorgeous. She would be a wonderful Canadian addition.

This is the last season of Desperate Housewives. It is possible that DWTS could snag one of the actors or actresses from that show.

An older male country singer like Garth Brooks or Lyle Lovettt would be sweet on the show, too.

Viewers get Dancing with the Stars Wrong again

David Arquette left the show tonight and  boos erupted form the audience. . Nancy Grace should have been given the honors, but viewer votes saved her.

This is who is left:

1. Hope Solo & Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Hope Solo is a soccer hottie and has the athletic ability to finish in the final three. However, there is bad chemistry between her and Maksim which could doom her chances. She did great this week because Maksim hurt his toe and another dancer had to train her.

2. J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff. JR should win because of his Iraq service and sacrifice. He will have the viewer vote behind him. He is an excellent dancer and could only finish in second place if he stumbles in the finals.

3. Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus. Nancy should have left tonight after weak performances yesterday. Can she survive another week? Rightardia hopes not.

4. Ricki Lake & Derek Hough. This team has been the most consistent through the season and would finish first if it weren't for JR's fan base. If JR stumbles in the finals, Ricki will win. Of course, it also helps that Derek is the best dancer and choreographer on the show,


5. Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke. Ron will be competing with Hope Solo for third place and may have the advantage because Cheryl Burke is one of the best choreographers on the show. On Monday, the Addams Family Tango was the best and most entertaining dance on the show.

It would be nice if the judges would rate the dancers more objectively in the final weeks of the show, but that usually doesn't happen. It would be unusual for any of the dancers to be scored with less than an 8 starting next week.

This is why the viewers will decide the final outcome. Len Goodman likes it that way.

No suprises in Dancing with the Stars

Hope Solo survived the cut tonight because Chas Bono received the lowest combined score from viewers and the judges. Rightardia thinks Chas did as well as he could do in view of his weight and size.

Bono indicated that he was upset on the Jimmy Kimmel show by Judge Bruno Tambione who called him a penguin and a Weebok. His partner, Lacey Schwimmer, was wearing a dress with petticoats during the dance and stayed in front of Chas which suggested she was trying to mask his performance. This may have incensed the judges.

Maksim also apologized for is outburst about Hope Solo's performance and his acidic words for judge Len Goodman. Maksim had suggested that Len had been in the business too long and it was time for Len to retire.

Rightardia thinks Maksim has a point. Len often seems to be at odds with the other two judges and his views reflect the business as it was a couple of decades ago.

Dancers simply must stay in the box with Len or he will lowball the team. Len seems to have lost that DWTS is about entertainment, not real dance competition. It is was real competition, viewers scores would not be considered at all.

Hope's samba was slow and slow sambas usually indicate dancers who are insecure about their performance. If she doesn't measure up next week, she will be eliminated.

Next week is do or die for Hope Solo, Nancy Grace and David Arquette. Rightardia's bet is on Arquette for third place but the judges seem to be scoring Nancy grace higher than she deserves. We would expect Rob Kardashian to be eliminated next.

JR Martinez will likely finish first and Ricki Lake--second.

The pressure will really be on next week. Watch for an upset!

Dancing with the Stars: Best Season ever

This is clearly the best season ever and the half of the new cast are excellent dancers. JR Mattinez is likely to win the competition which is based on popular vote because he is a great dancer and because he served in Iraq where he was seriously injured.

Ricki Lake is will probably come in come in second. She had the good fortune of being teamed with Derek Hough, one of the best dancers and choreographers.

Lake goes neck and neck with JR every week and she has actually outscored JR during most of the completion. However, the best dancer doesn't always win in DWTS.

Third place could go to David Arquette, Rob Kardashiam or Nancy Grace. Rightardia thinks Arquette is the stongest of the three.

We would expect Hope Solo or Chas Bono to be dropped form the show tomorrow.  Chas's tango was mediocre and his partner constantly danced in front of him to mask his missteps.

Hope Solo has some sort of attitude problem and it appears she wants to be off the show. Solo is the goalie on the US women's soccer team and athletes normally have a huge advantage in the competition.

However, Solo's antics and expression when she is receiving criticism from the judges is lacking. Tonight she danced with a pair of black shorts and a knitted poncho pullover that looked left over from the practice studio.

Solo is an embarrassment to women's soccer. Her behavior is boorish. We know her partner, Maxim Chernovsky, can be a handful.

Carson Pressley, one of the contestants who was eliminated, was over the top. His dances were quite humorous and every one loved him. We hated to see him eliminated. 

This season will be a tough act to follow. The musical talent and sets were exceptional. It was nice to see the Bangles performing again, although Susanna Hoffs was barely recognizable. 

Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough was also back on the show and she danced with her brother, Derek two weeks ago. It was amazing to watch them dance. Both are very talented and physical dancers.

New season of "Dancing with the Stars" starts

Kirstie Alley look great and can move well considering her weight. It is likely she will drop a lot of weight by the end of the show. It's hard to believe, but Kirstie is 60.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is Ukranian and has a reputation as being 'bad." As Maks puts it, "I make "bad look good."

Dancing is very strenuous and us equivalent to running a marathon if you can dance for more than two hours. But it is lot more fun than running.

Rightardia heard that although most people lose weight on "Dancing with the Star," there was one exception we are aware of: Bristol Palin.

Taiwan's NMA does another funny animation on Sarah Palin and her family.

The Babbler has come a long way since Bristol got knocked up by her teenage boyfriend and Sarah was plucked from obscurity to become the Republican Party's vice presidential candidate.

Dancing With the Stars, reality TV, and a  a new book.  Could Sarah Palin be the next US president?

Rightardia's Season 12 Dancing with the Stars fantasy nominees

1. Florence Rhodes--She was the dancer who did the opening dances in Dirty Dancing and played Penny Johnson, the dance Instructor. She is married to Richard Marx. 
2. Heidi Montag--She is the celubutante reality startlet known more for her plastic surgery work than anything else.
3. Jillian Micheals--the personal trainer for "The Biggest Losers" she will have the stamina to make it to the finals.

4. Christine O'Donnell--This defeated wingnut needs a job. Perhaps the Tea Baggers will carry her into the finals like they did Bristol Palin.
5. Joe Montana--It would be nice to see the legendary quarterback back in the lime light
6. Paris Hilton--This will never happen, but it would be fun to see a rich bitch compete in something. 
7. Lindsey Lohan--She needs a job badly. Most likely to fall off the wagon early and be dropped form the show. She needs redemption. This might be her last chance.

8. Sugar Ray Leonard--the legendary boxer will be a crowd pleaser.
9. Shaun White--the Flying Tomato--another fine athlete that could go the distance.

10. Carrot Top--Rightardia can't even imagine what some of his dance routines would be like.

Dancing with the Stars Winner of the most outrageous performance

We give the Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) Most 0utraguous performance to  Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, who seems to have been elected Governor of New Jersey in 2030. He has a lovely assistant who looks amazingly like Sarah Palin.

But it was actually his dance partner,  Karina Smirnoff, looked like Sarah Palin because of the eye glasses she was wearing when the dance skit opened.

The Situation steps into a time machine (from his Foxtrot in "Story Week") and appears on the DWTS stage, where he has his shirt ripped off by Karina, Peta, and Samantha.

We might describe this male fantasy as a sandwich, but a "Dagwood" would be a better description in this case.

It takes a special person to take off their shirt while dancing to Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy."

Only a Jersey boy like "the Situation" would even consider it. The Situation es el hombre con los testículos más grandes del mundo. Well, what did you expect from "the Situation, the Hamster Dance!

Culture Map: Bristol Palin clearly deserved to win DWTS

Jennifer Grey won Dancing with the Stars. The predicted winner and the actress best known for dancing alongside legend Patrick Swayze swept the finals? BORING.

This is what happens when you let professionals decide scoring! They judge on dumb things like talent . . .

Why couldn’t the show have left it up to psychotic Tea Partiers like they did in a previous episode when Bristol Palin beat out Brandy despite a laughable performance by Palin?

It’s shocking DWTS has made it as far as it has, considering reality TV banks on shock value and surprises. What would have been a better twist than crowning Bristol winner?

Besides, Bristol deserved the win. I’m not talking talent or merit. I’m talking pity.

Sure, the 50-year-old Grey was twice the age of many contestants and danced through a painful back injury.

But Bristol Palin has to wake up and be Bristol Palin every day, and that’s way more a challenge than any ruptured disc.

After her humiliating abstinence-only campaign (what says FAIL more than a single mom pretending abstinence education works?) and her mom’s frequent abuse of the English language, (including recently tweeting “refudiate” in an unintentional combination of “repudiate” or “refute”) America needs to throw the girl a bone.

Besides, who could deny that the Bristol and Mark's hamster dance was an American original. Mark was gallant when he broke  Bristol out of the Wassilla  hamster cage and they both danced around the floor in a gaint hamster ball. 

This is entertainment worthy of adulation by even Joe the Plumber.


Bristol was robbed, pure and simple. She is a Palin and was entitled to win DWTS. The finals should have been a "Bristol Stomp!"
