Salon's Joan Walsh's tweet angers evangelicals

Rightardia admires Joan Walsh. She is intelligent and beautiful. Apparently her tweet angered some of the faithful.

Rightardia consider the tweet appropriate since Romney was a Mormon bishop for many years and may still be. Rightardia could not find out when Mittens had resigned as bishop.

Mormons also posthumously baptize non-Mormons into their faith. Ann Romney's father, who was an atheist, was also baptized into the LDS faith after his death.

Romney has said that he wanted to save America's soul. The Mormons also baptized two  members of the Jewish faith:  Daniel Pearl and Anne Frank in February, 2012.

Obama will deliver his education speech from his black throne

One of the greatest things about electing Barack Obama as president, for me, was his appeal to young people, especially disaffected kids of every group, including young African-Americans.

In a country where schools are overcrowded and underfunded (as liberals complain), while many families and communities can't or won't take their kids' education seriously enough, Obama has always been someone who's able to balance both critiques.

Obama speaks to young people with passion, conviction and humor (plus references to L'il Wayne that John McCain couldn't pull off) about taking responsibility for their own education.

So I was thrilled to hear he was going to deliver a back-to- school speech next week. I like seeing him play that paternal role, Father in Chief, not just for his own daughters, but for all of our children.

All of our kids need to be reminded that education is a precious opportunity they must seize, whether they live behind the high gates of a tony private community or in a violence-plagued housing project. After all the fighting of the summer, finally something we can agree about, right?

Wrong. I never imagined the outbreak of right-wing crazy that Obama's gesture would provoke, and this time it's hard not to see racism behind the hysteria. The message is "Obama's coming for our children!" the standard cry against scary boogeymen in every culture.

I mean, really, what besides Obama's race could make him so scary to these people? That he's a Marxist socialist fascist Nazi? I'd argue that the only reason those extreme epithets have taken hold goes back to reason No. 1: Our first black president is provoking some outsize and irrational reactions.

Especially since, as has now been well-documented, President George H.W. Bush addressed American students in 1991, and Ronald Reagan did so via C-SPAN in 1988.

Salon.com reveals William Kostric to be a right wing nut job

Joan Walsh of Salon.com writes that at least one of his William Kostric's statements to Chris Matthews doesn't seem to be true. A right-wing activist named "William Kostric,"  is listed as a "team member" of the Arizona chapter of We the People, the far-right group best known for joining a Birther lawsuit.


Kostric told MSNBC he recently moved from Arizona to New Hampshire.
On his MySpace page (h/t Lavender Newswire), Kostric also lists as one of his heroes, Robert Schultz, the anti-tax activist and We the People founder who spent a lot of his own money on ads promoting the Birther movement.

Kostric's MySpace profile also lists among his heroes Randy Weaver, the white supremacist and right-wing activist who survived the Ruby Ridge confrontation.

The profile also includes, as one of Kostric's "Top 12 friends," the Free State Movement, a group organizing libertarians to move to New Hampshire and expand on the state's "Live Free or Die" credo, and ultimately secede from the union.

A "William Kostric" also signed two pledgesat PledgeBank, a site that lets people organize around various causes. Kostric's two pledges include: "move to New Hampshire by 12/31/2008 where I will work to bring about a society in which government’s maximum role is protecting life, liberty, and property."

There's no overt reason to conclude from his Web presence that Kostric is violent, although on the Web site of Reason,the libertarian magazine, someone posting under his name defends drug dealers who kill police officers . . .

"If people can't wake up and see why it's immoral to trespass and destroy someones property, kidnap and lock them in a cage for growing a plant in their backyard then perhaps a body count is what's required for change.

If Kostric really believes "perhaps a body count is what's required for change" in the case of cops moving against drug dealers, it would be interesting to know what other causes he thinks a "body count" might hasten along.
