Should a three-way marriage be allowed? A notary public in Sao Paulo, Brazil, has sparked controversy by allowing two women and a man to enter a civil union. Could formal marriage rights be far behind?
Public Notary Claudia do Nascimento Domingues said the trio should be entitled to family rights. The female-male-female grouping have lived in Rio de Janeiro together for three years and share bills and other expenses. The civil union would help protect their rights in case of separation or death of a partner.
But religious groups are angry, saying the civil union shouldn't be allowed to stand. Globo TV reports the civil union was formalised three months ago, but only came to light this week.

Now Russia will have its own stealth jet fighter-bomber. Sukhoi promises to have it ready this year and start producing it in 2010.
They tell that the design of the plane is still kept secret and those sketches are the only clue that people have, but as it is known it would be a decent F-22 competitor.
PAK FA literally means Prospective (promising) Aircraft System of Frontline Aviation.
It is being developed by Sukhoi OKB, which refers internally to the project as the T-50. The PAK FA is intended to replace the MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker in the Russian Air Force. It is scheduled to have its first flight in 2009 and enter service with the Russian Air Force. The PAK FA was designed to compete with the USA's F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightning II, the world's first fifth-generation fighter jets.
Russia is also developing a customized, twin-seater variant of the Sukhoi PAK FA, named Sukhoi/HAL FGFA, with India.
In the late 1980s, the Soviet Union outlined a need for a next-generation aircraft to replace its MiG-29 and Su-27 in frontline service. Two projects were proposed to meet this need, the Sukhoi Su-47 and the Mikoyan Project 1.44. In 2002, Sukhoi was chosen to lead the design for the new combat aircraft. The PAK FA will incorporate technology from both the Su-47 and the MiG 1.44.
The Novosibirsk Chkalov Aviation Production Association (NAPO) has begun construction of the fifth-generation multirole fighter. This work is being performed at Komsomol'sk-on-Amur together with Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association.
The enterprise's general director, Fedor Zhdanov reported during a visit to NAPO by Novosibirsk Oblast's governor Viktor Tolokonskiy on 6 March 2007. "Final assembly will take place at Komsomol'sk-on-Amur, and we will be carrying out assembly of the fore body of this airplane," Zhdanov specified. The fifth-generation fighter, which will replace the MiG-29 and Su-27 airplanes of the previous generation, was developed by the Sukhoi design bureau.
NAPO Chkalov is one of the country's largest airplane-building enterprises and is included in the Sukhoi Holding Company, ITAR-TASS notes on 8 August 2007, Russian Air Force Commander Alexander Zelin was quoted by Russian news agencies that the development stage of the PAK FA program is now complete and construction of the first aircraft for flight testing will now begin.
Maiden flight
It was announced on 5 May 2007 by Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov that the first flight of the new aircraft was expected in late 2008, almost a year later than originally expected. Sukhoi CEO Mikhail Pogosyan stated at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2007 exhibition in Malaysia on December 6 that the prototype will not fly until 2009. On 28 of February 2009 Mikhail Pogosyan announced that the airframe for the aircraft was almost finished and that the first prototype should be ready by August 2009.
Derivative project with India, The Sukhoi/HAL FGFA
Russia and India agreed in early 2007 to jointly study and develop a Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft Program, FGFA.[12][13] On October 27, 2007, Asia Times quoted Sukhoi's director, Mikhail Pogosyan, "We [India and Russia] will share the funding, engineering and intellectual property [of the new project] in a 50-50 proportion."[14] The Indian version, according to the deal, will be different from the Russian version and specific to Indian requirements[15].
While the Russian version will be a single-pilot fighter, the Indian variant will have a twin-seat configuration based on its operational doctrine which calls for greater radius of combat operations. The wings and control surfaces need to be reworked for the FGFA. Although, development work has yet to begin, the Russian side has expressed optimism that a test article will be ready for its maiden flight by 2012 induction into service by 2015.
Brazil in the project?
Brazil is officially out of project PAK-FA. The recent trip of Russian president Dmitri Medvedev to Brazil on November 25, 2008 did not result in the signature of any agreement related to the project. The Commander of the Brazilian Air Force, Juniti Saito, justified: "I do not want to blacken the image of Sukhoi, but the project did not fit into our necessities".
Russian sources allege the opposite, that the sales of the Su-35 fighters for Project FX-2 would not only result in technology transfer, as well as it would include Brazil in the development of project PAK-FA.
Design
Although there is no reliable information about the PAK FA's specifications yet, it is known from interviews with people in the Russian Air Force that it will be stealthy, have the ability to supercruise, be outfitted with the next generation of air-to-air, air-to-surface, and air-to-ship missiles, and incorporate an AESA radar.
The PAK FA will use on her first flights 2 Saturn 117S engines (about 14.5 ton thrust each). The 117S is an advanced version of the AL-31F, but built with the experience gained in the AL-41F program. The AL-41F powered the Mikoyan MFI fighter (Project/Article 1.44). Later versions of the PAK FA will use a completely new engine (17.5 ton thrust each), developed by NPO Saturn or FGUP MMPP Salyut.
MOSCOW, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has risen to sixth place in the latest FIFA rankings, published on the website of international football's governing body on Wednesday.
Guus Hiddink's team overtook England and Argentina to reach its highest position since August 1997. Hiddink is the manager of the Russian national team.
Although the US team finished an amazing second in the Confederations Cup, it did not make the top 10 list. The Confederations Cup is a warm up for the FIFA World Cup.
Germany and Russia's rivals in their hunt for automatic qualification for the World Cup 2010, dropped two places to 5th.
European champions Spain were knocked off the top of the rankings by Confederation Cup winners Brazil.

Brazil showed their undeniable class in the final of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 in Johannesburg, fighting back from two goals down at the interval to sink the courageous Americans 3-2.
Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovon grabbed goals in the first period, but the South American champions roared back with a Luis Fabiano brace and a Lucio header to pick up their third FIFA Confederations Cup crown.
The United States not only heeded their coach's pre-game battle cry by not conceding an early goal, but they ran out and notched a surprise opener for themselves after only ten minutes. A lovely cross from right-back Jonathan Spector was met on the volley by Clint Dempsey and guided gently inside the back post by the Fulham striker.
The Brazilians, just three minutes after being stunned by the well-crafted American goal, marched right up the other end, Manchester City star Robinho forcing Tim Howard into a fine save with a curling shot from the edge of the box. The USA seemed to know that trying to defend a 1-0 lead for too long against a team as dangerous as Brazil would be asking for trouble, so continued to try and press the ball high up the field.
The South American champions and five-time FIFA World Cup™-winners, who beat the United States 3-0 earlier in the competition, were clearly caught off-guard by the force of a motivated and confident Stars and Stripes side. Felipe Melo's snapshot in the 25th minute and Maicon's vicious strike from a tight angle shortly after were both well saved by Howard, but cause for some cautious optimism in the Brazilian camp.
In the 27th minute, hope turned to horror for the Seleção. A lightning counter-attack, which was very similar to the goal Robinho scored against the USA ten days ago in Pretoria, led to the Americans doubling their lead. Capitalising on a rare error in the Brazilian build-up, pacy youngster Charlie Davies collected the ball on the left and fed all-time top scorer Landon Donovan, who kept his cool to finish low past Julio Cesar.
With desperation creeping into their game, Brazil nearly cut the deficit with ten minutes to go with a snap-shot from close range by Felipe Melo after a slide-rule Robinho ball. Howard was equal to the task, however, and he repeated the dose when Robinho fired one in minutes before the interval, underlining the form which has earned the Everton custodian the adidas Golden Shoe.
Brazil were out of their changing room well before the US, eager to mount a famous comeback. They didn't have to wait long to cut the American lead in half as Maicon fed Luis Fabiano just inside the area. The Sevilla hit-man swivelled brilliantly, slamming through Jay Demerit's legs and past Howard with only seconds gone in the half for his fourth goal of the competition. It was the first goal conceded by the Americans in 254 consecutive minutes of football.
The goal had the predictable effect of inspiring the Auriverde and Kaka, subsequently awarded the Adidas Golden Ball for the tournament's best player, began to assert his sizeable influence on proceedings. In the 59th minute a Brazil corner was nodded dangerously towards goal by Lucio, and after Howard fumbled the ball, Gilberto Silva fired over with a wild shot. Kaka's header two minutes later from close range flew up off the ground and bobbled off post and crossbar before the US keeper managed to grab hold, wagging his finger defiantly against claims that the ball went over the line.
The 74th minute finally brought Brazil's equaliser, sealing Luis Fabiano's place as top scorer and winner of the Adidas Golden Shoe in the process. A sharp low cross from Kaka on the left was hit off the underside of the bar by Robinho, but the lethal Fabiano was on hand to nod home for his fifth goal in five games. The fight-back was then completed with just six minutes to go when a corner kick from Elano was met by a thumping header from Canarinha captain Lucio which flew in off Howard's post.
