Huffington Post: Web site invites affluent to donate their Bush tax cut to charity

For affluent Americans outraged by the fiscal and social consequences of extending the Bush tax cuts handed to them by President Bush that were recently extended for two more years, a trio of Ivy League academics has furnished a way for them to put their money where their mouth is.

Their new website, giveitbackforjobs.org, invites high-income Americans to calculate the value of their tax cut using computations based upon the adjusted gros income of the affluent taxpayer. The taxpayer can then pledge to donate that money directly to charities.

The site says encourage "fairness, economic growth, and a vibrant middle class."

The site doesn't accept contributions directly, but links users to the charities.

Fox News: “Thank God For Rich People”

Bernie Goldberg, Fox News contributor

. . . try to imagine an America without rich people. Rich people contribute a lot to this country. The top one percent of wage earners pay 38 percent of all federal taxes.

The top five percent pay 60 percent and the top ten percent pay 70 percent of all federal income taxes.

Now, they pay a disproportionate amount for all sorts of things that help poor people, whether it’s food, or whether it’s medicine, or whether it’s sending kids to college.

Media matters: Fox News shills for the affluent

December 09, 2010 1:46 pm ET by David Shere

You know who they love on Fox News? Rich people. They love rich people like they hate progressives and liberals.

This fetishization of wealth that serves as Fox News' raison d'etre was on full display yesterday on America's Newsroom, one of Fox's "straight news" programs, as anchor Martha MacCallum interviewed Eric Bolling, Fox contributor and the host of Follow the Money on the Fox Business network.

MacCallum and Bolling spent the majority of this segment lamenting the unjust tax burden faced by the wealthy. the two mocked the possibility that helping people who actually, you know, need help, might be beneficial for the broader economy.

The video ignores the reality that all Americans pay taxes and that most Americans pay more in sales tax and municipal tax than they pay in income tax.
considering that the top 20 per cent of Americans haul in 50 per cent of the national income.

At least Fox News didn't try to frame the argument that the rich pay 59 per cent of all taxes because that is simply not true. In addition, the people who don't pay taxes are primarily people with low incomes who live in the Red States.

The Southland was founded on a  slave-based economy which may explain the anti-union sentiments there. It also means that southern workers are the most poorly paid in the nation.

Most of the Red States are recipient states for federal tax revenues. That means federal dollars from the donor states on Left Coast and in North-east pour into the south because of the weak economy there.

The Southland also has a robust underground economy that became apparent during the BP oil spill. Gulf coast fisherman were unable to produce 1040s and W2 because they haven't been paying taxes.

Rightardia thinks too many Americans have been conned by the GOP. The Blue States have been subsidizing the rich and the Red States for far too long.

Obama had to compromise with Republicans because of bad Democratic politics and timing.

UBS bank settlement: rich are getting nervous

UBS bank in Switzerland settled U.S. demands for the names of suspected tax dodgers. The settlement has a lot of wealthy Americans with offshore accounts nervously running to their tax advisers  and the Internal Revenue Service. Our government has also filed civil suit against the UBS bank that will lead to even more revelations.

The tax evaders have until September 23 to identify themselves to the IRS to work out a payment plan to avoid prosecution. Three people have already been convicted of tax evasion, but one of the names has not been published.

"They [the rich] are very frightened," said Richard Boggs, chief executive of Nationwide Tax Relief, a Los-Angeles-based tax firm that specializes in clients with tax debts exceeding $100,000. "You have the super rich who are not used to being pushed around and they are finding themselves in unfamiliar territory."

Rightardia suspects many of the people who have evaded taxes include conservative politicians. One wealthy senator from Florida unexpectedly resigned before the end of his term. We suspect others will start dropping like flies shortly. This will be good for the Democratic Party.

Former Senator Phil Gramm of Texas was responsible for a lot of this mischief. He was not only a lobbyist for UBS, he was also a UBS executive and had to know what was going on. The UBS activities were essentially a sophisticated conspiracy that used encrypted laptops, dummy offshore corporations, and UBS bank account executives who made thousands of covert trips to US to help wealthy clients evade US taxes.

Make no mistake about it. This was a criminal conspiracy that should have been prosecuted under the Ricoh Act. The UBS bank should be banned from doing business in the US permanently. The LGT bank and others in Lichtenstein and Switzerland should also be banned in the US that were involved in the conspiracy.

The US has been cutting the taxes for the affluent since JFK. There is no reason for tax evasion in the US except for the unrelenting greed of the upper class. The political party that shills for the wealthy is, of course, the GOP.

Homeland Security and the NSA should use the Echelon, Einstein and Solar Wind systems to monitor economic attacks against the US government. Corporate networks should also be monitored for activities that meet a tax evasion profile. NSA crackers should also attack banks in Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Andorra, Monaco and the Cayman Islands to uncover more accounts of US tax cheats.

This tax invasion is actually a bigger threat to the US than terrorism. One way to get the country back into the black is to make sure that everyone is paying their fair share of US taxes.
