The Truth will set you free

The Republicans have been forced into an ideological box inhabited by true believers, know nothings, the under-educated, racists and the fearful.

The Conservative argument for low taxes for the affluent, less regulation and privatization nearly pushed the US into another depression. The Tea Party spin helped the GOP retake the House, but so far the GOP has been ineffective and the 112th congress has a 17 per cent favorability.

America needs an alternative to the Republican party which is fast fading into a minority, regional party run by a white country club oligarchy. The GOP is openly advocating fascist views on many political issues.

The Democratic Party needs to improve as well, but it is certainly the lesser of evils in US politics.

McCain and Graham are angry DADT was repealed

Arizona Senator John McCain has denied a claim by the conservative group, Family Research Council (FRC), that he's working to undo repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell.”

Before senators voted for repeal on Saturday, McCain, sensing defeat, said, “Today is a very sad day.”

John McCain is at odds, with his centrist daughter, Meghan, who is supportive of gays and lesbians. 

Meanwhile, Lindsey Graham who has been rumoured to be gay for years, may about to be outed. Is this payback for years of a rabid anti-gay voting record?

Apparently both McCain and Graham are angry that their version of DADT was not considered by the US Senate. Their version is called Are You, Do tell! (RU,DT!)

Under RU,DT! anyone enlisting could admit they were gay or lesbian and the statement would be sealed. If there were homosexual allegation later in the service person's career, they would would be protected as long as their name was on the 'gay and lesbian list."

Democrats said such a list would make gay and lesbians targets and that the list would affect career progression and assignments. Rachel Maddow called the RU,DT! idea a bad one.

She said the Republicans would use RU,DT! to blacklist gays and lesbians. Conservative evangelical commanders would want to peak at he list to see who was on "the home team."

Newsy.com: Is the GOP Embracing Gay Marriage?

Prominent conservatives are coming out in support of same-sex marriage. And gay issues haven’t played a central issue in the 2010 election cycle.

Is this a change of course for the GOP?



The right usually doesn't reverse itself on social issues until the handwriting is on the wall. Rightardia has been amused by right wing efforts to take credit for the civil right movement and the legacy of Martin Luther King.


It looks like conservatives are about to adopt gay rights as well. Of course, most of the right arguments against gay marriage center around Biblical proscriptions against gay sexuality.

Is this really a straight Republican?

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) has acknowledged that his turquoise--or was it teal--web belt may have been too much after a picture of him attending a summer party went viral.

The Republican Congressman tweeted "Never thought a pic of me w/ my shirt on would go viral. Learned my lesson and burned the belt" after a weekend of tittering tweets about the sexy Congressman who looked like he was headed to Fire Island instead of his hometown, Peoria, Ill.

There is at least one more gay Republican in the Senate

David Brooks,conservative columnist, tells a fantastic anecdote that supports his recent New York Times column lamenting the loss of dignity in America. Apparently, Brooks was at a dinner party and sat next to a Republican senator who "had his hand on my inner thigh the whole time. I was like, ehh, get me out of here."
