". . .(A)fter months of scrutiny and protest drawing attention to reports of Amazon warehouses at which ambulances were kept stationed outside to treat workers inevitably collapsing from the summer heat, Amazon announced it is spending $52 million to air-condition its warehouses. Workers in those warehouses will still be worked unreasonably hard for unreasonably little money with poor job security, but air-conditioning should substantially reduce one hazard.

One set of warehouse workers is trying to join a union, though, strengthened by the fact that they are actually employed by a retailer and not by temp agencies. The overwhelmingly Latino workforce at a New Jersey Bed Bath & Beyond distribution center is moving toward a union representation vote . . ."

Rightardia has pointed out that Amazon is a big ALEC supporter which is worrisome. Bed, Bath and Beyond is underpaying warehouse workers and only grants them three days of sick leave a year.

Part of the reason that middle class wages haven't kept up with worker productivity, is the decline of the union movement in the US. 


According to the Deprtment of Labor, 11.8 percent of americans are in unions. Public-sector workers had a union membership rate (37.0 percent) more than five times higher than that of private-sector workers which is 6.9 percent.

Corporations are scared of unions and hire legal teams that charge out at hundreds of dollars per hour to stop a union from organizing.

Daily Kos Poll: Large Portion Of GOP Thinks Obama Is Racist, Socialist, Non-U.S. Citizen

During his appearance at the House Republican retreat last Friday, Obama explained that it was hard to forge bipartisan consensus when lawmakers were trashing his health care bill as a "Bolshevik plot".

These poll numbers show that the gulf preventing bipartisan consensus extends well beyond health care. How does a Republican lawmaker explain to his or her die-hard base that it is important to work on legislation with a racist, socialist president who is illegally holding office only because of the help of ACORN?

"This is why it's becoming impossible for elected Republicans to work with Democrats to improve our country," said Markos Moulitsas, founder and publisher of Daily Kos. Here is the complete survey provided by Daily Kos/Research 2000:

"They are a party beholden to conspiracy theorists who don't even believe Obama was born in the United States, and already want to impeach him despite a glaring lack of scandal or wrongdoing. 

They think Obama is racist against white people and the second coming of Lenin. And if any of them stray and decide to do the right thing and try to work in a bipartisan fashion, they suffer primaries and attacks. Given what their base demands -- and this poll illustrates them perfectly -- it's no wonder the GOP is the party of no."

Here are some of the standout figures as provided by Daily Kos/Research 2000:

* 39 percent of Republicans believe Obama should be impeached, 29 percent are not sure, 32 percent said he should not be voted out of office.

* 36 percent of Republicans believe Obama was not born in the United States, 22 percent are not sure, 42 percent think he is a natural citizen.

* 31 percent of Republicans believe Obama is a "Racist who hates White people" -- the description once adopted by Fox News's Glenn Beck. 33 percent were not sure, and 36 percent said he was not a racist.

* 63 percent of Republicans think Obama is a socialist, 16 percent are not sure, 21 percent say he is not.

* 24 percent of Republicans believe Obama wants "the terrorists to win," 33 percent aren't sure, 43 percent said he did not want the terrorist to win.

* 21 percent of Republicans believe ACORN stole the 2008 election, 55 percent are not sure, 24 percent said the community organizing group did not steal the election.

* 23 percent of Republicans believe that their state should secede from the United States, 19 percent aren't sure, 58 percent said no.

* 53 percent of Republicans said they believe Sarah Palin is more qualified to be president than Obama.

By the way, the Birther who stood up during a Town hall meeting is called 'Crazy Eileen.'

She made international news when she hijacked Rep. Mike Castle's town hall meeting. It turns out that she is well-known around Delaware. Conservative radio host Jared Morris has posted a YouTube clip of her calls.

In a call from a January show, on New Year's predictions, the woman discusses aliens, angels and the end of life on Earth, according to an audio clip Morris posted on YouTube this week. In a videotaped introduction, Morris said the woman featured on the YouTube video from the meeting was a regular caller to his program. "I want you guys to know exactly who you were cheering," Morris said in the clip.

She repeatedly has called Obama "the antichrist" on the airwaves, and "her phone calls have turned to faxes and threats," according to Morris. "I have actually talked to an angel who came down in human form," she said during the Jan. 1 show. "We will have alien contact in October of this year, in the southwestern USA." One prediction may seem ironic in light of the anger expressed in her diatribe toward Castle: "There will be peace among men and negativity will end," she told Morris.

Dr. David McKalip forced to resign over Obama witch doctor photo

WMNF Tampa is a wonderful, progressive, listener supported FM radio station in the Tampa Bay area. Since the McKalip story was local and they cover local news, they were following the story and here's what they reported just this morning:

"Breaking news on WMNF airwaves. About an hour ago, David McKalip,the controversial incoming president of the Pinellas County Medical Association (active against healthcare reform in lots of ways but specifically took control of last week’s poorly organized (MoveOn) pro-reform rally -resigned his office on our airwaves.

It’s big news around here !  Yesterday this guy posted a very racist photoshopped image of Obama in full tribal, witch doctor regalia with the caption "ObamaCare"... and sent it out to about 200 people.

It went viral and in less than 24 hours he was on our radio station apologizing and ultimately announced his resignation as incoming president of the Pinellas County Medical Association.  As soon as the phone call was over Sean wrote up the story and posted it on our news blog... forward to anyone you think might be interested..."

We're interested for sure, right?  Thanks Volvo for breaking this story and empowering us to take action.  We cannot stand for this type of crap, nowhere, no how......let's see if he gets reprimanded from the hospitals he serves and from the AMA...I don't think this story is over yet.

Keep the pressure on folks. Go to Volvo's diary from yesterday for all the links to hospitals and the AMA.  They will respond--my phone call from the Director of Corporate Relations from St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Pete was very satisfying.  The director was livid, and she revealed that she is a black woman and so it disgusted her.

I told her I was a white 66-year-old female and I was horrified. Good work people!
