Latest Alexa Chrome extension appears to be spyware

Rightardia uses a chrome extension to check out blogs rating. The newest version of Alexa had to be re-enabled because it can now access data on all websites, monitor tabs and browsing activity and capture your list of apps, extensions and themes.

Rightardia's recomendation. don't use the  Alexa toolbar or extension.

It has morphed into a browser helper object that is essentially spyware. 


Rightardia's numbers are certified by Alexa, but under the circumstances, we have cancelled the Certified Pro Alexa service.

Rightardia's ratings do a Mittens' flip-flop

Rigtardia's rating went in the wrong direction about a month ago and then dropped to 62,141 in the US which is our lowest US Alexa rating ever.

We suspect Alexa has modified its rating scheme or wingers have been trying to mess with our ratings because we noticed some demographic shifts that are not explainable.

In any event, our ratings seems to be getting back to normal.

Rightardia Alexa rating continue to improve, 3/21/2012

Based on internet averages, Rightardia.blogspot.com is visited more frequently by males who are in the age range 55-64 and have children. We are relatively popular in both Tampa,FL and Portland, OR, 


It's nice to have some left coast followers.

Rightardia Alexa ratings get even better, 3/13/2012

Rightardia broke the global 500,000 barrier and the 70,000 barrier in the US. We still haven't bottomed out.

We already have 8936 posts and should hit 9,000 sometime next week.

Rightardia ratings improve, in top 60 thousand in the US

We expected out ratings would have stabilized by now but they are continuing to improve. We are now a top 60,000 site in the US.

Rightardia's Alexa ratings continue to improve

These are the best Alexa ratings we have received. Rightardia is relatively popular among users in the city of Tampa where we are ranked in the top 2,235 web sites.

Our ratings improved once we became Alexa certified. Our reputation (sites linking in) greatly improved. Our "General Audience" content rating also helped.

Alexa estimate that 82% of visitors to the site come from the US, where it has attained a traffic rank of 100,554.

Rightardia's Alexa ratings are still improving

Rightardia had a wild wide about a week ago which started with more than 3200 hits one day last week.

We embedded some Alexa meta data on our web site so Alexa can accurately track us. That is why we are Alexa certified.

We also noted we have a lot more web sites linking in (reputation) and that many of our articles have been picked up by Zimbio: see http://www.zimbio.com/search?q=rightardia&type=all

We are still waiting for our numbers to stabilize. It's been fun!

Rightardia had a wild ride last week

Last Thursday our Stat Counter showed we had 3352 page loads, followed by 1254 loads the following day and 1149 on Saturday.  . We started this week with 939 page loads.

Our certified Alexa summary looked good today as well.

Accoroding to Alexa , there are more than 100 million websites in the world. Rightardia is is within the top 1 million. We are now Alexa certified. Another source said there are 266,848,493 and this changes daily.

Rightardia Democraphics

The Alexa demographics that Rightardia has seen have been consistent. We are mainly viewed by men above age 45 and who have graduate school.

Rightardia also got demographics on income and ethnicity. As you can see our viewers aren't the type that live in the Red States, drink tea and don't pay taxes.

Our ethnic data was surprising. We would have expected more Asian readership because we cover China very day. We tried to cover Africa, but sub-Saharan African media is thin. We do monitor Al Jazeera every day.

Netcraft rank improves

The Rightardia Netcraft rank improved to 5747.

If you haven't installed a Netcraft anti-phish toolbar, you should. You can install it from http://toolbar.netcraft.com/.

The toolbar will warn you if you browse a web site that has been identified for phishing for bank and credit card information.

The toolbar also be installed as a Mozilla Firefox add-on.

Our Alexa stats are finally stabilizing after our html template lost its Alexa meta data. The blog appeals to an older crowd that is 45+ with graduate education who are predominantly male.

We need to soften the site to make it more appealing to female viewers.

Rightardia breaks the 6,000 Netcraft barrier

Hoo-ray, we broke into the top 5000 Netcraft web sites during an off week. We are now ranked 5841 by Netcraft. Our Alexa ratings went haywire when out meta data got lost in our html template. We fixed the problem and our Alexa ratings are returning to normal.

Rightardia is ranked #489,051 in the world according to the three-month Alexa traffic rankings. About 26% of visits to this site consist of only one pageview (i.e., are bounces). Visitors to it view 7.5 unique pages each day on average. We estimate that 73% of visitors to the site come from the US, where it has attained a traffic rank of 220,372. Rightardia can be found in the “Blogger” category of internet sites.


The Alexa graphic indicates that more of our viewers are mature males with graduate school.

Rightardia Netcraft and Alexa rankings

Rightarida's Netcraft ranks is now 6156 and considering Netcraft rates more than 1.1 million sites, we are quite proud of this rating. 

Our Alexa ratings have been moving in the other direction which made no sense because our Web-Stat and our public Stat Counter ratings verified the uptick in ratings.

We checked our site listing at Alexa:Alexa site owner's edit and found our Alexa meta data was missing from our HTML template.

This meta data insertion is the best way to allow Alexa to rate your web site. So we put the Meta data back into our html template and suspect our ratings will return to normal. See the graphic that follow for a screen shot of obtaining the Alexa meta code:

This happened once before when we upgraded the blogger template. We have no explanation of why the meta data disappeared this time.

Rightardia's gets some age demographics

We got some demographics from Alexa with age information for the first time. Roghtardia's viewers are primarily age 55-64, have attended graduate school, and over-whelmingly male.

We have seen a convergence between our one month and three month  Alexa ratings suggesting our audience is stabilizing.

Thus, our primary audience appears to be highly educated male seniors. This is an unusual demographic for a progressive blog. These demographics are more typical of a conservative blog.

Likewise, our Netcraft ratings also seem to be fluctuating between 6400 and 6700.

The Right wing let the Rightardia genie out of the bottle

Rightrdia had been getting repectable ratings form both Netcraft and Alexa for the past year. Our current Netcraft rating is steady at 6458 and our Alexa rating has been dramitically dropping.

Our three month Alexa worldwide rating is 466,467 and for the last month: 260.495.

Our three month rating in the US is 67,958.  About 28% of visits to this site consist of only one pageview (i.e., are bounces). Visitors to view 8.8 unique pages each day on average. Alexa  estimates that 81% of visitors to the site come from the US.

Since we publish 10 articles per page, out readers spend a lot time on the Righardia site. We publish five to ten articles per day and cross post links to about five per day on Usenet.

Our writers are real journalists and we follow journalistic conventions to the best of out ability. We are doing some innovative cross posting with the St. Petersburg Times, a wonderful progressive newspaper.

We now have some demographic data, too. Most of our readers are male and we have a mix of people with and without children. We are greatly over-represented by people with graduate degrees and under-represented by people who didn't go to college. This is an an interesting mix of readers, for sure!

Our readership greatly increased when we started being attacked by right wing operatives on Usenet. We started receiving threatening phone calls and one Usenet right wing poster even threatened to attack Rightardia. 

We were also smeared with a porno attack that directed our viewers to unseemly porn sites. Wingnuts have also tried to suggest we are a gay blog when actually we just support the human rights of gays and straights.

This must be the cost of being a loud voice in the progressive community. There are people on the right that would like to silence our voice. These attacks from the right have just made us stronger and more resolute.

Some people just can't handle the truth!

Our demographics are unchanged. People who went to graduate school are greatly over-represented. People who went to college are under-represented, a curious duality.

Alexa rank dramitically improves

Rightrdia has been chipping away at our Netcraft ratings for a long time, but the Alexa ratings  have been making he most dramtic improvements in the past month. We are now rated 82,883 in the US and out worldwide rank for the past month is 349,465.

We have also seen some demographic shifts. We are still waiting for age demographics from Alexa.

At this time most of our viewers are male, are viewers are under-represented by people with no college and greatly over-represented by people with graduate school, a curious duality.

Most of the viewers browse Rightardia at home which is not surprising considering our stance on corporatism.

Alexa stats continue to improve

Our ratings improved by 90 per cent in the past month according to Alexa. 
We expect to break into the US top 100,000 mark with Alexa by next week if the present  trend continues. Of interest , Alexa indicates that people with graduate education are over-represented on our site. That is music to our ears!



Our Netcraft rank is 6303 which is a worldwide rank.

Update: We broke the Alexa US 100.000 barrier this afternoon. Our US rank is now 99,847.

Alexa stats are best ever

Our US rating of 167,926 is the lowest ever. In the last month our blog's traffic has increased by 40 per cent and 20 per cent in the last three months. 

We are also starting to get some demographics from Alexa, once we embedded some metadata into our HTML header.

Many of our viewers have attended graduate school which means we appeal to the more educated Democratic progressives and liberals. We have more female viewers, and most of them have children.

Another Democratic site, Bartcop.com,  appeals to male Democrats, people who do not have children and viewers who have some or no college. The two Dem blogs have very different viewer demographics.

Under the circumstances, it is not surprising we get frequent visceral responses from conservatives who browse the Rightardia web site.

A lot of what we write about is over the head of many conservatives. That doesn't bother use because we are not trying to proselytize conservatives.

We are familiar with the theories of Lawrencee Kohlberg and know that most liberals and progressives can understand conventional thought, but conservatives find it much harder to grasp post-conventional thinking. 

That's just the way the cookie crumbles. Rightardia was never designed to appeal to the "Joe the Plumbers" of the World.
