Dog TV: Does it have a political agenda?

Just when you think you've seen just about everything, you change the channel and voila: DogTV is flashing in front of your eyes.

DogTV is a new cable channel for dogs, with programming that features muted colors, altered sound and specially composed music. The network is designed to bring relaxation and stimulation to dogs when their humans are away from home.

DogTV is currently only available on two channels in the San Diego area but it already has 1 million subscribers and is looking to go national. More than 46 million US households own at least one dog and 97 percent have a television, so drawing in large numbers of subscribers shouldn't be too difficult.

The word on the street is that dog TV was launched by a coalition of angry progressives who wish to unite dog owners against Mitt  Romney.

The channel has been heavily programmed with progressive political ads.

There is even a series, "Little Dog on the Prairie" about a dog named Seamus who is horribly mistreated by Mitten the Kitten. The dog runs away to Canada to start a new life on the prairie.

Mitten follows Seamus to Canada and a dramatic gun fight ensues. Who will win: the dog or the cat?

NMA: The Shroud of Turin religious scam

Catholics have historically revered the shroud of Turin as a relic of Jesus Christ. But many believed that the shroud with the image of a man on it is actually a fake that dates from medieval times.

An Italian research team has come up with a controversial finding. According to their research, the image on the shroud could only have been made with a powerful burst of ultraviolet light. As the kind of technology necessary to generated this kind of light would not be available until recent times, This suggests the shroud is not a forgery.

But there are also scientific evidence pointing in the other direction: carbon dating of the shroud finds that it dates from 1260AD or later. The bible itself also says that Jesus was wrapped in two pieces of fabric after his death while the shroud of Turin is in one piece.

The debate over the shroud's authenticity will doubtlessly continue for many years to come. 

The first certain historical record dates about the shroud date from 1353 or 1357.In 1390 in Lirey, Francewhen Bishop Pierre d'Arcis wrote a memorandum to Antipope Clement VII, stating that the shroud was a forgery and that the artist had confessed.

The Catholic Church likely knows the shroud is a fake but in a period of declining church attendance, it has resurrected another story that the shroud in authentic.

In another couple of years, another cock 'n bull story will appear attesting to the authenticity of the shroud. Shroud stories create interest in the church. It's the church's version of advertising.

NMA: Kim Jong-Il death creates uncertainty

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is dead. State media reported the Dear Leader died on Saturday due to "great mental and physical strain" while on a "high-intensity field inspection."

News of Kim Jong-il's death prompted a great outpouring of public grief, though North Koreans could hardly be expected to display any other kind of emotion in the tightly managed Stalinist state.

Kim's son, the 20-something Kim Jong-un aka the Bright Leader, is the heir apparent. But the younger Kim is not secure in his power and the elder Kim's death could result in a dangerous power vacuum in what is arguably the world's most dangerous flashpoint. This could  potentially embroil China and the US in a military confrontation in the Korean Peninsula.
