Christ died to save us from our sins?

Erich Veith wrote an article about a crazy old man who crucified himself to "save his children." We have heard the story of atonement before, haven't we?

Did Christ really die to save us from our sins? Where in the Old Testament (Torah) does it say  that the son of God has to die so the world can go on? Does this concept even make sense?

Let's suppose that Jesus really was the Son of God and he sent Jesus to Earth to "save it." A group of Italians and Jews got together and decided to kill Jesus. Would God have been pleased by the death of his son?

Rightardia doesn't think so. The God of Old Testament would have come down from the heavens and destroyed the Earth for such blasphemy and disrespect. 

The Disciples were actually amazed that the Romans were so easily able to kill the Son of God.

Enter stage right the Holy Ghost. One of the ancient texts had the Ghost leaving the body of Jesus and laughing a the Romans after they crucified Jesus. That book never made it into the final cut of the bible.

The resurrection also explains that Jesus really didn't die either, because he rose form the dead and ascended into heaven.

This is the official story that explains away the death of Jesus who was executed as a common criminal.

The story became even more incredible after the death of Jesus.

In August of 2005 Trijicon was awarded a $660 million dollar, multi-year contract to provide 800,000 of its Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) to the U.S. Marine Corps. According to Trijicon, the ACOG is "designed to function in bright light, low light or no light conditions," and is "ideal for combat due to its high degree of discrimination, even among multiple moving targets."

At the end of the scope's model number, one can see "JN8:12", which is a reference to the New Testament book of John, Chapter 8, Verse 12, which reads: "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (King James Version).

The Trijicon company in Michigan says that it has always stamped its sighting systems with coded biblical passages. Tom Munson, director of sales and marketing told ABC News that “the inscriptions “have always been there.”
Munson denied that they were wrong or illegal. He responded to the criticism by deriding the group as “not Christian.”

Another Trijicon inscriptions is 2COR4:6, which is a reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

CNN: Was Jesus wealthy?

(CNN) -- Each Christmas, Christians tell stories about the poor baby Jesus born in a lowly manger because there was no room in the inn.

But the Rev. C. Thomas Anderson, senior pastor of the Living Word Bible Church in Mesa, Arizona, preaches a version of the Christmas story that says baby Jesus wasn't so poor after all.

Anderson says Jesus couldn't have been poor because he received lucrative gifts -- gold, frankincense and myrrh -- at birth. Jesus had to be wealthy because the Roman soldiers who crucified him gambled for his expensive undergarments. Even Jesus' parents, Mary and Joseph, lived and traveled in style, he says.

"Mary and Joseph took a Cadillac to get to Bethlehem because the finest transportation of their day was a donkey," says Anderson. "Poor people ate their donkey. Only the wealthy used it as transportation."

Many Christians see Jesus as the poor, itinerant preacher who had "no place to lay his head." But as Christians gather around the globe this year to celebrate the birth of Jesus, another group of Christians are insisting that Jesus' beginnings weren't so humble.

They say that Jesus was never poor -- and neither should his followers be. Their claim is embedded in the doctrine known as the prosperity gospel, which holds that God rewards the faithful with financial prosperity and spiritual gifts.

Rightardia comment: It is amusing how both he left and the right try to claim the intellectual and religious heritage of Jesus. Rightard Whitey, our political editor, suggests both camps are wrong and using historical present mindedness to judge a man who lived 2,000 years ago when the world was a very different place is pointless. 

Jesus was certainly not a conservative. He advocated fundamental social change, not the status quo.
