Jessica Ehrlich to Congressman Bill Young: Please do not confuse voters with "stalkers"

St Petersburg, FL - Jessica Ehrlich, the Democratic Party's nominee against 42-year incumbent Republican Congressman Bill Young in Florida's 13th district (Pinellas County) issued the following statement regarding repo

"I am deeply relieved to learn Congressman Young and his family have not suffered any physical harm following reports his home has been allegedly burglarized over the past several years. And I have faith the Indian Shores police department will continue their thorough investigation. Following the attack on Rep. Giffords, nothing can be taken lightly."

"However, I am disturbed by several comments made by Congressman Young in today's story. The Congressman acknowledged he is 'more on guard' after he was 'recently caught on video' telling a voter who asked him a question about raising the minimum wage to 'get a job'. He also said he is 'not used to this kind of personal treatment' and claimed he was being 'stalked'."

"With all due respect to Congressman Young, I think he is confusing voters legitimately inquiring about his stances on important issues with being 'stalkers'. Thousands of Floridians saw the video of Congressman Young telling a young man repeatedly to 'get a job' after he respectfully asked Young a question. Further, Young, in another incident 'caught on video', walked away from a military veteran asking him a question about our treatment of America's returning military heroes."

"If Congressman Young wants to earn a 43rd year in Congress he needs to stop confusing voters with stalkers."

"If Congressman Young had held a town hall meeting or attended a debate, his constituents would not need to approach him to find out his positions. After four decades in Congress, Bill Young needs to explain his vote to 'voucherize' Medicare. 

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee that controls Washington spending, he needs to answer for our record budget deficit. And with thousands of Pinellas County voters struggling in this economy, his economic plan needs to be more than 'get a job'.

"I believe a seat in Congress is something to be earned. That's why I have been campaigning tirelessly, outlining my plan to protect Medicare, to cut wasteful government spending, and to protect our middle class. I have attended all of the recent candidate forums and have never seen Congressman Young."

"We don't need a Congressman simply occupying a seat in Congress and being 'on his guard' with voters. It's time for leadership and advocacy. I will put my real world, hands-on business experience to work fighting for Pinellas County's economic future."

Note: CW Bill Young had thought his condo has been burglarized but the local police disagreed.

Bill Young "Too Busy" for Debate Next to his Office but Doubles Down on Paul Ryan in DC and Out of District Events

St. Petersburg, FL - Congressman CW Bill Young told the Tampa Bay Times that he was "too busy" to debate on September 6th in a candidate forum in his office building. But on September 13th he found the time to attend an event for Paul Ryan in DC and on September 15th he stumped for Ryan in Florida outside the district he is supposed to represent. 

Proving how much he has lost touch with Pinellas County Young said, "I know in my district it's had a positive effect, him being on the ticket," Young continued to say when he attended Paul Ryan's event in DC. "He's just a likable guy." Young must not be talking about the women that actually live in his district who would have their right to choose, equal pay for equal work or access to affordable birth control stripped away. If Paul Ryan and Bill Young get their way women's health and equality will be rolled back decades.

"Bill Young may think Paul Ryan is a 'likable guy' because they both want to restrict equal pay, access to affordable birth control and send a women's right to choose back to the early 70's, when Young was first elected." Said Ehrlich in response to Young entrenching himself with Paul Ryan. "Young has clearly lost touch with the people of the district he is supposed to represent."

"Last week, the Seminole Chamber of Commerce held a candidates' forum next door to U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young's office. They invited the 81-year-old congressman to attend along with his Democratic challenger, Jessica Ehrlich.

Young failed to show. So, following legal advice from the League of Women Voters, the forum's organizers did not allow Ehrlich a turn at the microphone either."

Young has not attended this event, which is next to his office, in the last 25 years.

Congressman Young Ducks Public Debate but Speaks Behind Closed Doors
Bill Young ducked yet another public debate but today he found the time to speak behind closed doors at a members only reception. To date, this makes three missed opportunities for Young to engage in the democratic process by discussing the issues most important to the people of Pinellas.
Last night's Seminole Chamber of Commerce and League of Women Voters forum was held in the same building as Young's district congressional office and yet Young gave no reason for his absence from the event. Still running and hiding from his vote to turn Medicare into a voucher program, Young could not even walk down the hall to address the crowd of voters gathered at the Forum to hear all other candidates in the area from County Commissioner to Sheriff. However, Bill Young did manage to find the time to speak at a closed-door, members-only event today.
After the third canceled public debate, Jessica Ehrlich has challenged Bill Young to three televised debates. As of the sending of this release, there has been no reply to the Ehrlich campaign or the voters of Pinellas County.
"It has been decades since a congressional debate was held here in Pinellas County," said Ehrlich about Young's disregard for the people of Pinellas. "The voters here deserve a discussion on the issues that affect their daily lives"

Breaking: New Poll shows more than half of Pinellas voters don't want to reelect Young 

Jessica Ehrlich;s campaign got some polling numbers today and it is clear just how unpopular our opponent, Bill "Get a Job" Young, really is! 

In the poll, we are only five points away from Young among likely voters. Five points is nothing. After his rude outburst at a voter who asked his stance on the minimum wage and the fact that he is completely disconnected from the people he is supposed to be serving. 


But, voters are fed up with Bill Young and obviously want a fresh voice in Congress. 

The next 7 hours are critical - we have our primary filing deadline to the FEC and all eyes are on our fundraising after these poll numbers. Please help us have the strongest showing possible, we are only $9,000 from our goal. 
Earlier today, Bill voted against the wishes of Pinellas County yet again and for less regulation of offshore drilling. 


This just goes to show that Congressman Young could care less about the people he represents. Florida was ravaged by the BP oil disaster, but all Young cares about is padding his oil allies pockets.

Will C.W. Bill Young apologize?

Jessica Ehrlich is close to the goal of signatures for a petition to Bill Young that demands an apology for his demeaning and insulting exchange with a young voter who asked for his stance on minimum wage.  As reported by several major news outlets and by the Washington Post, Young rudely replied to the voter’s question, “Get a job” – never mind the fact that the voter did, in fact, have a job!  Even worse, when asked to explain his opposition to raising minimum wage, he said he “doesn’t favor handouts.” It is not a handout if people are working for it. We must hold Young accountable.  How long will Congressman Young remain silent? Voters deserve answers and a member of Congress who will listen to their views and needs. C.W.Bill young, GOP poster geezer for term limits

By now, you may have heard all about Congressman Bill Young's demeaning and irrational outburst on the Fourth of July. 


A voter simply inquired about the Congressman's stance on raising the minimum wage. Young dismissively told the voter to "Get a Job". 


When the voter responded that he had one for $8.50 and just wanted to know if Congressman Young would support raising the minimum wage, the Congressman rudely responded again with "Get a Job". 


We know it's time for a fresh approach and leaders who listen to the needs of their constituents. 

I need your urgent help to make sure we can have the representation we deserve.

Jessica Ehrlich on the Supreme Court ruling

This is a victory for Floridians and middle class families across the country.  Now is the time to look towards the future. This law has already improved insurance coverage for so many. It gives American's with pre-existing conditions the ability to get health insurance, and it allows young adults to stay on a parent's health insurance until they are 26 and closes the prescription drug “doughnut hole”. "Jessica Ehrlich, a St. Petersburg native with a bi-partisan political biography, plans to formally announce Monday her campaign to challenge veteran U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores."

Her success may greatly depend on how the local congressional district shapes up. The new congressional district would have parts of Pinellas country combined with both Pasco and Hillborough county districts. The Florida Democratic Party is challenging the state congressional district maps which would trisect and weaken the political clout of Pinellas county.

C.W. Bill Young has been able to win 20 elections because a strong Democratic part of St. Petersburg has been conveniently lopped off from his district.
