Bay of Fundie: Fundies and Evagleicals

There is an interesting article in the Bay of Fundie that make as a distinction between fundies and Evangelical Christians. As the author notes:

Fundie or fundy (plural fundies) is a pejorative slang term used to refer to religious fundamentalists of any religion or denomination, although it is primarily directed towards fundamentalist Christians. The term is intentionally derogatory, and is used most commonly by those opposed to the Christian Right movement.

Newt is starting to play the Catholic card

What does a conservative politicians do who has a tarnished political reputation, and committed adultery and ethics violations? Normally a former Southern Baptist like Newt would become reborn.

But that's not what Newt did in 2009. He converted to Catholcism. Shortly afterward, he criticized the newly inaugurated President Obama who was invited to Notre Dame University to speak.

Perhaps Newt thinks he is the reincarnation of JFK and will lead the nation out of it darkness. Perhaps he thinks he can get both the Evangelical and Catholic vote in the next election.

In the 2008 election cycle, Gingrich did not do well with Evangelicals because of his three marriages and adultery scandals.

Perhaps he turned Catholic to spite the Evangelicals who abandoned him in 2008.

Tonight in the GOP debates Gingrich suggested that the contemporary “crisis of values” stems from the anti-clericalism of the French Revolution.

The Catholic church was attacked during the French revolution because it supported the French nobility's divine right of kings as the Second Estate. Some French became atheists and others--deists--who were people who believed in God, but not organized religion.

Priests and bishops were persecuted and church property confiscated during this revolution.  

Many of the founders like Jefferson, Monroe and Franklin were deists. 

No doubt the Catholic church liked Newt's quote although the crises we are in today has little to do with the "crises of values"  or the French revolution. 

This is psuedo-intellectual double talk.

In any event, be prepared for Newt to play the Catholic card even more.

Gawker: Crystal cathedral wants a straight choir

The Crystal Cathedral went bankrupt which was unfortunate because Dr. Robert H. Schuller was one of the best televangelists on TV. More importantly, he really understood the meaning of the Bible and its lessons.

Unfortunately the Cathedral is now under 'new management" and one of the conditions of being in the church choir is that members sign a covenant that they aren't gay or lesbian.

Rightardia can understand why a church wouldn't want its ministry involved a godless sex scandal, but the choir, c'mon!


A lot of he'in and she'in and he'in and he'in scandals have hit evangelical churches. Rightardia thinks it's the  the repressive and inflexible moral code that eventually pushes some of the church members, usually the preacher, over the deep end. 

I'm talking about you, Ted Haggard and Jimmy Swaggart!

Most people are aware of the stereotype of the preacher's daughter being the biggest whore in town.  Children often rebel to the extreme moral codes of their parents. 


Likewise, Rightardia also loves to point out the hypocrisy in the GOP when it comes to "family values." 

Recently resigned Rep. Chis Lee is the latest GOP family values train wreck. He was looking for tranny love in all of the wrong places.

Huffington Post: U.S. Soldiers Punished for Not Attending Christian Concert

On May 13, 2010, about eighty soldiers, stationed at Fort Eustis while attending a training course, were punished for opting out of attending a Christian concerts.

The headliner at this concert was a Christian rock band called BarlowGirl, a band that describes itself as taking "an aggressive, almost warrior-like stance when it comes to spreading the gospel and serving God."

Any doubt that this was an evangelical Christian event was cleared up by the Army post's newspaper, the Fort Eustis Wheel, which ran an article after the concert that began:

Following the Apostle Paul's message to the Ephesians in the Bible, Christian rock music's edgy, all-girl band BarlowGirl brought the armor of God to the warriors and families of Fort Eustis during another installment of the Commanding General's Spiritual Fitness Concert Series May 13 at Jacobs Theater.

A few days later, some of the soldiers punished for choosing not to attend this concert contacted the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF). The following is from the account sent by one of those soldiers to MRFF, detailing what transpired that night.

The week prior to the event the [unit name and NCO's name withheld] informed us of a Christian rock event that was about to take place on Thursday the 13th.

"On Thursday 13th at 1730 we were informed that instead of being dismissed for the day, the entire company (about 250 soldiers) would march as a whole to the event. Not only that, but to make sure that everyone is present we were prohibited from going back to the barracks (to eliminate the off chance that some might "hide" in their rooms and not come back down).

We were marched as a whole to chow and were instructed to reform outside the dining facility. A number of soldiers were disappointed and restless. Several of us were of different faith or belief. A couple were particularly offended (being of Muslim faith) and started considering to disobey the order.

From the dining facility we were marched back to the company area. There was a rumor circulating that we may be given a choice later on to fall out or attend. Though it was only a rumor it was also a small hope enough to allow us to follow along a little longer before choosing to become disobedient. We were marched back to the company area. To our dismay there was still no sign of us having a choice.

We started marching to the theater. At that point two Muslim soldiers fell out of formation on their own. Student leadership tried to convince them to fall back in and that a choice will be presented to us once we reach the theater.

At the theater we were instructed to split in two groups; those that want to attend versus those that don't. At that point what crossed my mind is the fact that being given an option so late in the game implies that the leadership is attempting to make a point about its intention. The "body language" was suggesting that "we marched you here as a group to give you a clue that we really want you to attend (we tilt the table and expect you to roll in our direction), now we give you the choice to either satisfy us or disappoint us." A number of soldiers seemed to notice these clues and sullenly volunteered for the concert in fear of possible consequences.

Those of us that chose not to attend (about 80, or a little less that half) were marched back to the company area. At that point the NCO issued us a punishment. We were to be on lock-down in the company (not released from duty), could not go anywhere on post (no PX, no library, etc). We were to go to strictly to the barracks and contact maintenance. If we were caught sitting in our rooms, in our beds, or having/handling electronics (cell phones, laptops, games) and doing anything other than maintenance, we would further have our weekend passes revoked and continue barracks maintenance for the entirety of the weekend. At that point the implied message was clear in my mind "we gave you a choice to either satisfy us or disappoint us. Since you chose to disappoint us you will now have your freedoms suspended and contact chores while the rest of your buddies are enjoying a concert."

At that evening, nine of us chose to pursue an EO complaint. I was surprised to find out that a couple of the most offended soldiers were actually Christian themselves (Catholic). One of them was grown as a child in Cuba and this incident enraged him particularly as it brought memories of oppression. 

You might think this is an isolated incident. It isn't. This has been going on in the Armed Services since the mid-1980s. There is an active evangelical conspiracy to Christianize the Armed Services. There are even beltway groups involved such as Doug Coe's the Family and his C Street politicians.

First, instead of weekly invocation at staff meetings, the chaplain starts showing daily. The the officers and NCOs are invited to religious events. Then a commanding general tells you that only armed forces who believe in God have been successful on the battlefield.

The commander's statement is false. The Japanese Imperial Navy defeated the Russians during th Russo-Japanese war in 1905. The Japanese practice Shinto and do not worship a specific deity. The Russian army defeated the Nazis and the Russian government and army  was atheist. The Red Chinese Army also defeated the Nationalist Chinese.

The Air Force has a special problem because it is located in Colorado Springs, an Evangelical hotbed. Many of the local girls  the academy cadets will marry will be evangelical. 

Remember Ted Haggard. He had one of the biggest evangelical mega-churches in Colorado Springs.

The academy cadets will be the future commanders of the Air Force and you can be certain that their wife will drag them to church each week. This is the end game of the evangelicals: a base, wing or higher echelon evangelical commander. These people has a great deal of power and they can imply that an subordinate officer's career depends on church attendance.

An Evangelical commander can also suggest that more wholesome entertainment is needed on base like a Christin rock group. What is a commander to do if no one shows for the rock concert?

Apparently the Ft. Eustis commander thought he could violate the First Amendment of the US constitution to get his troops to attend.

US Evangeleicals in Bagram urged to share faith in Afghanistan

US evangelicals soldier in Bagram shown prostolyzing Afghans. Lt.Col Gary Hensley, Chief of Chaplains, in Afghanistan said "We need to hunt to people for Jesus." This activity violates US Central Command General order Number 1 that forbids prostolyzing of any religon, fatih or practice.

Sixty per cent of US Army chaplains identify themselves as evangelical Christians. Clearly these people have lost sight of the mission which is destroy al Qaeda, not to convert the locals to Christianity.

Rightardia had mentioned that evangelicals had been infiltrating the Armed services since the 1980s and many of the officers have attained senior grades such as Lt. Col Hensley. We have also heard that some of these chaplains have performed exorcisms in hospitals.

This activity is subversive and should be stopped. We will never have any success in Afghanistan if our soldiers are religious zealots. Any chaplain involved in such activity should be transferred out of Afghanistan and dismissed from the service.

Racism stems from top commanders in the US Armed Forces

Editor's Note:  I would be the first to agree that the commanders and service chiefs need to get the racism under control in the Armed Services. There used to be Equal Opportunity and Treatment (EEOT) programs in the Armed Services to control this. 

Part of the problem is that the Armed Services have been infiltrated by Southern evangelicals for the past 30 years who want the Armed Services to be faith-based. Many of these people are now senior officers . Most have turned a deaf error to racism in their service branch.

An American race-hate watchdog claims there's growing neo-Nazi activity within the country's armed forces.

The Southern Poverty Law Center wants Congress to look into its findings that dozens of military personnel are registered on a social network that identifies itself as white supremacist and that homosexuals are being thrown out, despite rules to the contrary.

It is extremely hard to learn exactly how far the problem extends. US servicemen returning from Iraq and Afghanistan say that the issue is very widespread and extremism and racism are rife in the US military.

Some believe the problem stems from the top commanding officials who express such views. These kinds of attitudes are trickling down to the general soldiery, who are beginning to behave the same way, and exactly because the problem of extremism is so widespread, it is going to be hard to root it out.

This issue has been around for several years now. The Bush administration failed to do anything about it. The Pentagon acknowledged in a 2008 report that the problem of racism has really become serious in the US military.

Very serious approaches from the top need to be taken in order to tackle the problem. However, so far analysts have been saying that the US military really has adopted the “don’t ask – don’t tell” approach.

Whether the call of the Southern Poverty Law Centre, which monitors right wing militia and racist groups in the US, will be heard or not in Washington DC remains to be seen.

Right Wing Christian Conspiracy

Every where you turn you find right wing politicians that are evangelical or tied into The Family, the Mormon Church, or a Pentecostal denomination.

Evangelicals have been infiltrating the Armed services for at least 30 years and many of these right wing zealots are senior officers. The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs is located near a large evangelical community and many of the young men marry evangelical wives after they graduate from the academy.

There are many reports from Iraq and Afghanistan of troops refereeing to themselves as the New Jews or crusaders. Protestant clergy have conducted exorcisms in hospitals in front of Muslim patients. In Afghanistan some troops had planned to distribute thousands of Bible before commanders made them destroy the Bibles. Distributing a Christian Bible in Afghanistan is a crime.

Even worse the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has reported that neo-Nazis have enlisted in the armed forces and many advertise their racist sentiments on the New Saxon web site. Some of these individuals had swastikas and Celtic crosses tattooed their bodies when they enlisted. Many joined the Army or Marines to learn how to use weapons and explosives.

It is not a coincidence that George W. Bush, John Ashcroft and Sarah Palin are Born Again Christians. Senator John Ensign is tied into a shadowy Christian group called The Family and is sequestered with other politicians in a Family compound.

Several members of the United States Senate and Congress, mostly Republicans, are resident or non-resident members of the Family. Boarders at the Family's house on C Street include or have included Senators Tom Coburn, R-Okla., John Ensign, R-Nev., and Sam Brownback, R-Kan. and Representatives Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., Bart Stupak, D-Mich., Jim DeMint, R-S.C., Joseph Pitts, R-Pa, Mike Doyle, D-Pa. Other members include or have included Senators Don Nickles, R.-Okla., Charles Grassley, R.-Iowa, Pete Domenici, R.-N.Mex., James Inhofe, R.-Okla., Bill Nelson, D.-Fla., and Conrad Burns, R.-Mont. and Representative Frank Wolf, R.-Va. Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina is also a member of the family.

Mitt Romney is a bishop in the church of the Latter Day Saints and Mike Huckabeee is an ordained minister. The GOP is seeped in 'old time' religion. Michele Bachman was booted off of a school board when she tried to install 12 Christian principals in a charter school that were similar to the 10 Commandment . There is even a judge in Alabama who was impeached for displaying religious symbols in his court room. He is running for governor.

Many of these Republicans have graduated from Christian schools such as Bob Jones University or Liberty University who indoctrinated their students with Christian values that are historically inaccurate and undemocratic. Many of these Republicans believe that the US was founded as a Christian nation.

Monica Goodling, a government attorney, graduated from one of these schools and she dismissed several US Attorneys for political reasons and replaced them with conservative attorneys provided through a secret GOP network.

Is all of this a coincidence or part of a coordinated right wing conspiracy? Hillary Clinton has talked about the vast right wing conspiracy when she was the First Lady. Rightardia thinks she knew what she was talking about. The objective of this cabal is to Christianize America and stop new progressive programs. These people are mad as a hornets nest because of the defeat of the conservative Christian agenda in the 2008 election.

America saw where this wayward right wing agenda led us in the past eight years. These zealots aren't happy campers and they will do what ever they can to undermine Obama and the Democratic party. Don't undestimate them. They are organized and have a militant agenda.
