DCCC starts Campaign Against Rep. Sean Duffy & Gov. Walker for Selling Out Wisconsin Workers

As Representative Sean Duffy (WI-07) welcomes Governor Walker to his own district today to fundraise off an extreme, coordinated effort to sell out Wisconsin working families, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching an online advertising campaign to commemorate the occasion.

The ad to hold Representative Duffy and Governor Walker accountable for standing together to fundraise off destroying the rights of Wisconsin workers can be found here: http://dccc.org/duffy.

DCCC Online Ad Running in Wisconsin

Haley Morris of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said:

Just days after Governor Walker’s historic power grab at the expense of Wisconsin workers, Representative Sean Duffy is not only welcoming the Governor to his district, but hoping to cash in.

By standing at Governor Walker’s side and expecting to profit off his deplorable agenda, Representative Sean Duffy has made it clear that he supports a coordinated  campaign to sell out Wisconsin working families.

Although Representative Sean Duffy has been “noticeably silent” regarding the situation in Wisconsin, his hand in supporting Governor Walker and oil billionaire Koch brothers’ agenda to hurt working families has not been well hidden.

In addition, the LA Times noted that Representative Duffy’s former campaign manager and chief of staff left him to lead Koch’s efforts in Wisconsin, namely to help support Governor Walker’s anti-worker tactics.

Representative Duffy’s hypocrisy has sparked the ire of the Editorial Board at the Wausau Daily Herald who was disappointed by his lack of leadership and transparency.

Background

Duffy’s former campaign manager accepted a position with Koch’s Americans for Prosperity. In March 2011, the LA Times reported that Duffy’s former campaign manager, Matt Seaholm, accepted a position with Americans for Prosperity, “one of Walker's most vocal allies in his skirmish with the unions.” [LA Times, 3/10/11]

Local news spoke out against Duffy’s failed leadership. During the protests in Wisconsin over Governor Scott Walker’s attempts to strip collective bargaining rights, the Wausau Daily Herald wrote that Duffy’s failure to comment on the situation was “weak” and “just plain lame.” [Wausau Daily Herald2/19/11]

Huffington Post: DNC Urges Activists To Film GOP

Sam Stein stein@huffingtonpost.com | HuffPost Reporting

The Democratic National Committee will debut on Tuesday a new web-based feature that will empower Democratic activists to serve as "trackers" of Republican candidates throughout the country.

In a move that could add a broad new element of accountability to elections , the DNC is encouraging its followers to upload video, mail pieces or audio recordings of GOP officials to a DNC-run site.

If carried out as planned, the new online tool could drastically alter the landscape of the 2010 elections, with campaign functions contracted out to hundreds of free volunteers. At a minimum, it is a vivid illustration of the modern-day campaign, where a slip-up by a candidate caught on video could have profound impacts on his or her electoral prospects.

Aides freely admit that the goal is to create another "Macaca moment" -- in which former Senator George Allen (R-Va.) famously doomed his reelection hopes by belittling an opposition videographer with a racial slur.

"Macaca was a game-changing event, not only for that race but for others," said Shauna Daly, research director at the DNC who is overseeing the new project.

Certainly it showed people a side of George Allen they hadn't seen before. They just hadn't been exposed to it. And the town halls last summer were amazingly eye-opening to people and video played a major role in it. ... We know that people have cameras everywhere now, whether it is your iPhone or a 200-dollar HD minicam that can take great video. This is something not exclusive to campaigns anymore.

Dubbed "The Accountability Project," the site, which is being emailed to the DNC's massive email list on Tuesday, will serve as a digital library for Democratic officials both state-based and in Washington, D.C. Users are given instructions on how to film a campaign, upload the video, submit copies of mailers or attack ads, record robocalls and place that audio on the web.

An official with the DNC will monitor the submissions in addition to cataloging the content. It will be largely left to interested parties -- reporters, ostensibly, included -- to sort through the information for the more newsworthy or inflammatory bits.

So you think the GOP will retake Congress in 2010?

Think again. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had its strongest monthly fundraising performance in June, and now has more cash-on-hand that outstanding debt.

Aided by a fundraiser headlined by President Obama, the DCCC raised $7.15 million – twice as much as the NRCC’s fundraising haul during the month. It now has $9.73 million cash-on-hand, and owes $6 million in outstanding debt.

For its part, the NRCC raised $3.1 million in the month, and banked $4.16 million at the end of June. It still owes $3.25 million in debt.

For the year, the DCCC has raised $30.84 million, while the NRCC has brought in $17.55 million.
