Former Bush Treasury Secretary John W. Snow suggested that one of the culprits for the financial meltdown might have been George W. Bush's "ownership society."
In a fact sheet, the Bush White House said:
The president believes that homeownership is the cornerstone of America's vibrant communities and benefits individual families by building stability and long-term financial security.
Was it President Bush who encouraged the bad lending practices that led to the subprime mortgage mess? The historians will eventually figure it out.
So far Rightardia has not heard Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac or Barney Frank mentioned in the al Jazeera series on the meltdown. In the alternative conservative universe. those are the three culprits.
