Why Democrats should request an absentee ballot in Florida

Rick Scott recently signed a controversial overhaul of the election laws that is designed to improve GOP chances in Florida next year.

Critics lambasted Scott for endorsing “voter suppression” tactics aimed at the 2012 elections.

The League of Women Voters says it will have to suspend its voter-registration activities. The bill requires the league and other groups to register with the state and face fines of up to $1,000 for not submitting voting forms on time within 48 hours.

The bill also cuts early voting days from 15 to eight. Voters who have moved out of county will have to to cast provisional ballots which means there is a 50/50 chance that the vote will count.

The bill changes a 40 year policy that allowed voters to update their legal addresses when they voted.

The safest way for a Democrat  to vote in Florida is to request an absentee ballot. This must be done no later than 5 pm six days prior to an election!
