Non-Believers 2, Christians -0

We like the debates between the non-believers and the religious who are usually fundamentalist or evangelical Christians.

Rightardia call the latter Kumbaya Christians. These people believe everything will be all right as long as you believe in Jesus.

Many of these right wing Christians equate free enterprise and US nationalism with Christianity. Rightardia would like to see some biblical chapter and verse that can makes that connection.

What follows is part of an earlier debate between athiest Rapid Response Squad and two christians who took thier challenge.

The Rational Response Squad" —  atheists Brian Sapient and his comrade, a woman who goes by the name of Kelly.

Both had been included in a previous "Nightline" report, telling the story of the Blasphemy Challenge in which they invited atheists to deny the existence of the Holy Spirit by posting videotaped denunciations on their Web site.

The debate  was run in toto on ABC's Night Line. Martin Basheer was the moderator.

Kirk Cameron, the child actor, and his preacher partner, Ray Comfort, took the challenge and said they would prove the existence of God. Check out one of the the videos of this debate

Mr. Comfort and Mr. Cameron stated repeatedly that they would prove the existence of God, "scientifically, absolutely, without mentioning faith or the Bible." Ray Comforts opening statement was based on Scripture and the 10 Commandments.

It's an approach Mr. Comfort uses often. For another example, listen to his "What Hollywood Believes" sermon. Comfort uses the 10 Commandments and scripture to make his case, which, of course,  mentions faith and the Bible.

Nothing can be proven scientifically and absolutely; science doesn't deal in absolutes. Nor does it deal in "proof." If you need proof, look into mathematics or formal logic. You'll find no such concepts in science, which only concerns itself with evidence.

This is why nothing ever gets beyond the status of "theory" in science. If Mr. Comfort doesn't understand that, then he doesn't understand what the academic discipline we call "science" fundamentally is, and really shouldn't be throwing the word "scientifically" around.

However, theories are highly regarded in the scientific community if backed up empirical evidence. Theories are also constantly evolving based on new data. The Bible, on the other hand, has changed little in the past 2,000 years.

Secular humanist scientists have also pointed out errors and contradictions in the Bible. Many archeologist's believe Jericho had been abandoned when the Israelites captured the fortress city.

The story of the Exodus is not documented in Egyptian documents written in the hieroglyphs of the whiten language or the scribes, hieratic. The Old Testament (Torah)  was written during the Babylonian captivity and the story of Noah's Ark is believed to be a far older story from Babylonian mythology.

The Rational Response Squad crew won this debate hands-down, and any honest, competent moderator would have granted them a decisive victory.

Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron clearly failed to stick to the terms of the debate. They even failed to stick to their own stated position.

it should also be obvious why right wing Christians dislike secular humanists perhaps even more than atheists. Secular humanist scholars, archeologist's and geologists have used science to critically examine many of the stories in the Bible. Many Bibical accounts have been found to be without merit.
