Republican Party has become the Rodney Dangerfield of politics
Yes, the GOP has become increasingly irrelevant and out-of -touch with America. Much of this was caused by the incompetence the Bush administration who started an unnecessary war that will cost more than $1 trillion and pushed the country into recession. The Bush Ownership Society was a failure and fewer Americans now own homes than ever. The tax policies of Republicans doubled the national debt.
Since the 2008 election, we have seen a odd assortment of Republicans try to capture the national imagination. Sarah Palin flamed out in the 2008 election because she was a diva and not a team player. Bobby Jindall went over like a lead balloon and has been compared to Kenneth the Page on 30 Rock. Mike Huckabee appeared to be leading the 2012 presidential pack until a prisoner, whose sentence Huckabee had commuted, killed four policeman.
Sen. John Ensign, who the GOP had been grooming for a presidential run had an affair with one of his staffers and was also outed as C Streeter, a secretive Christo-fascist organisation that is connected to The Family. Mark Sanford, another C Streeter, disappeared and had travelled to Argentina to have a tryst with his mistress.
It is not even clear who even leads the GOP. The head of the RNC, Michale Steele, appears to be a figurehead and one survey showed that Rush Limbaugh is the most influential voice in the party followed by Glen Beck. Democrats have noticed the GOP purging out moderates while the party moved even farther to the right. This is music to progressive ears.
Rahm Emanuel joked about Limbaugh being the head of the GOP, but that now appears to be the reality. The GOP just doesn't have any respect any more. It has become the Rodney Dangerfield of politics.
Of course, respect has to be earned. After the dismal failure of the Bush administration and the present cavalcade of conservative clowns, does it really deserve any respect? Do you need another example? Think a minute about the Tea Baggers!
