Brave New Foundation: Are the Koch brothers denying your vote?

Uploaded by  on Nov 3, 2011

Through their web of political influence, billionaire political operatives Charles and David Koch have bought access to democracy's lifeblood: free and fair elections. The Kochs have funded efforts to thwart 21 million Americans from voting and Koch dollars helped write and propose voting suppression bills in 38 states.

Large manufacturers and chemical producers have lobbied to stop the National Institutes of Health from classifying formaldehyde as a carcinogen.

A wide body of research has linked the chemical to cancer, but industrial polluters have prevented regulation of this harmful chemical.

Last year, the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer reported that billionaire David Koch, whose company Georgia Pacfic (a subsidiary of Koch Industries) is one of the country’s top producers of formaldehyde, was appointed to the NIH cancer board at a time when the NIH delayed action on the chemical.
How did this happen?  Someone was asleep at the switch.

Yesterday, the NIH finally handed down a report officially classifying formaldehyde as a carcinogen [...]

Koch Industries subverts Florida State University

In exchange for accepting $1.5 million from billionaire Charles Koch, one of the notorious right-wing Koch Brothers, Florida State University gave Koch the unprecedented right to reject some professor candidates for the school’s economics department. So far 60 per cent of the applicants have been rejected.

Allowing one of Florida’s great public universities to be used as a front for the Koch's corporate propaganda machine is unacceptable.

The Koch's move to control a part of FSU's economics department is bigger than FSU. For years, right wing billionaires like the Kochs have funded scores of front groups and think tanks to advance their radical agenda.

Now they want to use the cover of a public university in an attempt to give their failed ideas more credibility with the public. They can't win the battle of ideas in a fair fight, so they're suppressing academic freedom to get their way.

Florida State’s preposterous arrangement with Charles Koch opens the door to a slippery slope of pay-to-play control over our universities and should not go unchallenged.

Florid Progess Petition To FSU President Eric Barron

See FSU petition link

President Barron:

We, the undersigned, call on you to cancel the pay-to-play contract Florida State University signed with Charles Koch's foundation that has brought shame and controversy to one of Florida's proudest institutions. To sell off the hiring decisions of the university's economics department to a radical ideologue is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

As Floridians, we understand the impact of the legislature's devastating cuts to public education and we will be there with you to fight arm-in-arm against those cuts. But allowing one of Florida's most prestigious academic institutions to be bought off and used as an incubator for extremist propaganda is not the solution.

This public university is ours, President Barron, not Charles Koch's. And we will fight for it.

Rightardia suspect governor Rick Scott is involved with the attempt to corporatize a public university.

Democratic UnderGround: Koch Indsutries can be beaten

WICHITA--A federal judge on Monday sided with environmental pranksters behind a media hoax targeting Koch Industries Inc., upholding First Amendment protections for anonymous political speech on the Internet.

U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball in Utah tossed out a lawsuit filed by Koch Industries stemming from a bogus website and fake news release issued in December that falsely announced that the Wichita-based company was changing its financial commitments on climate change to fund more environmentally friendly groups.

Koch's lawsuit had sought monetary damages as well as the identities of the pranksters.

"Before authorizing subpoenas seeking to strip speakers of their First Amendment right to anonymity, courts require plaintiffs to make a preliminary showing that their complaint has merit," the judge wrote.

Rightardia would also point out that satire is also protected by the first amendment and unless a plaintiff can show malice, they have little chance of prevailing in court.

DCCC: SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER’S THANK YOU TO DAVID KOCH

At the Economic Club of New York House Speaker John Boehner stood tonight with controversial oil billionaire David Koch to push the House Republicans’ plan to end Medicare and protect taxpayer giveaways for Big Oil.

David Koch and John Boehner have come full circle; Koch and his shady corporate money group, Americans for Prosperity, spent millions making John Boehner Speaker last year and now Boehner and House Republicans are pushing the Koch agenda.

Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said:

David Koch spent millions of dollars to make John Boehner the Speaker of the House and now Speaker Boehner is thanking him with a budget that protects taxpayer giveaways for Big Oil and tax breaks for the ultra rich paid for by ending Medicare. Speaker Boehner’s priorities are clear: protecting Big Oil billionaires like David Koch at the expense of seniors. Big Oil and David Koch have no better friend than John Boehner.

Background

Boehner Stood With David Koch for Speech Reaffirming Plans to End Medicare. According to POLITICO, House Speaker John Boehner was joined by David Koch on stage at the presentation in New York where he re-affirmed House Republicans commitment to pushing for a plan that would end Medicare. [Politico, 5/8/11; Politico, 5/8/11; Speaker Boehner’s Press Release, 5/9/11; Wall Street Journal, 4/4/11]

House Republicans Stood with Big Oil. House Republicans opposed a measure that would allow the House of Representatives to approve the Big Oil Welfare Repeal Act of 2011 (H.R. 1689) which would repeal key taxpayer funded subsidies for oil and gas companies. As reported by The Hill newspaper, “House Democrats intend to force a vote on a measure that would eliminate a key oil industry tax break when Republicans bring a bill to expand domestic oil and-gas drilling to the floor Thursday.” [H Res 245, Vote #293, 5/5/11; The Hill, 5/4/11; see also CBS News, 5/4/11]

House Republicans Voted to End Medicare. The Wall Street Journal wrote, “The plan would essentially end Medicare, which now pays most of the health-care bills for 48 million elderly and disabled Americans, as a program that directly pays those bills.” [H Con. Res. 34, Vote #277, 4/15/11; Wall Street Journal, 4/4/11]

Americans for Prosperity said it spent $40 million in the 2010 election cycle. “Americans for Prosperity says it spent $40 million in the 2010 election cycle, organized rallies and phone banks, and canvassed door to door in nearly 100 races across the country.” [Los Angeles Times, 2/6/11}

Rightardia wonders if the Tea Party is getting this. It isn't the government that caused the near economic collapse of the US. It is men like David Koch.

Hysterical Raisins: Whazzup in Maine?

The Maine Heritage Policy Center says Gov. LePage’s proposed budget doesn’t make enough cuts. The center believes Maine should cut 4,000 state jobs.

The center also wants to end collective bargaining rights for state employees, Gov. Paul LePage decided to create private advisory groups to counsel him on business matters. These advisory which will not be subject to Maine’s open meeting laws.

Does this sound familiar? Are the Koch Brothers involved? You betcha!

Billionaires for Wealthcare get rowdy in Phoenix

When the Phoenix Billionaires found out that local AFP organizer, Tom Jenney, was going to Scottsdale again to rally the teapartiers, we decided that his good deeds could no longer go un-rewarded.

Ol’ Tommy played a little hard-to-get at first, but he relunctantly did accept our check made out to “Americans For the Prosperity of Koch Industries“. We can understand his shyness, because before this we’ve been avoiding the public light as to our financing of the front groups. We’re wealthy and proud and we’re not going to take it anymore!
