Russsia Today: Interracial couple denied marriage license is interviewed

Earlier in November, a justice of the peace in Louisiana resigned, after he refused to marry a mixed-race couple. Keith Bardwell came under strong criticism in the state, where race has long been a contentious issue.

RTs Priya Shrider went to meet the couple struggling for their right to be together. The Louisiana justice of the peace eventually resigned under pressure.

Miscegenation laws were rescinded in the 1960s which provided a legal basis for denying an interracial couple a marriage license in the US. These laws were passed in the South when the plantation owners noticed that a lot of white female indentured servants were marrying black men.

In South America, there were no such proscriptions on marriage. The miscegenation laws created a racial divide that still plagues America. Many Southerners also blame blacks for losing the Civil War.

Most black Americans have 15 per cent of their genetic heritage from a white ancestor. In addition, Black DNA is far more more robust and older than that of the other races that migrated from Africa.

From a genetic standpoint, an interracial child has advantages over other children. Want a good example of this: try the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

New Nixon Tapes: Nixon supported abortion for interracial pregnancies

President Richard Nixon worried that greater access to abortions would foster “permissiveness,” and said that “it breaks the family.” But he also saw a need for abortion in some cases, such as interracial pregnancies.

“There are times when an abortion is necessary. I know that. When you have a black and a white,” he told an aide, before adding: “Or a rape.”

The newly disclosed tapes were recorded by the secret microphones in the Oval Office between January and February 1973. Nixon resigned 20 months later because of the Watergate scandal.
