Grover is getting a backlash on his tax purity pledge

Rep. Timothy Johnson (R-IL) said that while he signed the pledge for his first election, he now considers Norquist’s stance “disingenuous and irresponsible“:

I would never in a million years have considered this as some kind of a locked-in-granite pledge. Frankly, I didn’t even remember it. That shows you how obscure it was to me.

. . . I’m not saying I’m even committed now to a tax increase, but I think anybody who doesn’t indicate their willingness to look at revenues — expiration of tax loopholes, tax credits, increase in contribution to Social Security, which is a tax, and otherwise — would be disingenuous and irresponsible.

Several Republican members of Congress have been battered in their town halls for their fealty to Norquist tax purity pledge. 

A constituent told Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND).

You work for North Dakota residents, not some guy from another state.

Grover Norquist is back and the GOP is threatening to close down the government by refusing to raise the debt limit.

Speaker John A. Boehner is vowing to hold up another increase in the federal debt ceiling unless there are more spending cuts.

Think the US doesn't have wealth and income problem?

Distribution of wealth in the Us has always been very unequal. Now, with supply side economics, the US also havs the firth most unequal distribution of income as well.

What is the solution? Vote democratic  and get involved in a labor movement that puts pressure on corporations to provide better benefits and pay to workers.

Patriotic Millionaires tell Grover Norquist to 'move To Somalia'

According to the AFL-CIO blog, A group of millionaires told a congressional hearing yesterday that they and others should be taxed more.

The Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength said that any deal struck by the Super Committee on the budget deficit should not cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The Super Committee should instead levy higher taxes on the wealthy and let the Bush tax cuts for the rich expire.

Eric Schoenberg, a member of Patriotic Millionaires and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia Business School met with Grover Norquist in his office Wednesday. He called the Huffington Post and provided this information on the meeting.

Schoenberg:  'Look would you be willing to sign a pledge where you're willing to forgo all the benefits that government provides? 
Are you willing to sign a pledge that says you don't want the U.S. military to protect you? 
That you will refuse to contact the police if somebody steals from you? 
That you will refuse to contact the fire department if your house is on fire? 
Because that's the equivalent! Why should you get a free ride? 


Norquist: Why should you benefit from my willingness to support the government? 


Schoenberg: Let's do it together.' 


Norquist:  If I don't have to pay any taxes for it, I would forgo all those things!' 


Schoenberg:  'Well there's an easy way to do that, move to Somalia!' 


Norquist: Somalia doesn't suffer from too little government, it suffers from too much government.' 


Schoenberg: I don't even begin to understand what that means, but again there's only so much you can go into in these conversations.


Somalia actually has an ineffective government and the country is in near anarchy with warlords controlling different regions.

Liberals frequently tell conservatives on USENET if they don't like taxes but love guns, Somalia is a great option. The AK-47s there are also inexpensive.

If you need protection in Somalia, you hire it.
