Hysterical Raisins: America doesn't need Food Safety

Last year, a bi-partisan majority in Congress approved a new food safety law. It was  the first significant change to the nation’s food safety system since 1938. 


The bill was non-controversial. It was approved unanimously  in the Senate. 


 Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) explained that the House GOP is okay cutting food safety funding because the food industry “self-polices”[...]


House Republicans are threatening to defund the new law by cutting  its appropriations.

NMA: Michelle Obama dumps food pyramid in favor of My Plate

Over the years, nutritional advice given to Americans became more and more complicated. Waistlines bulged as they grappled with schemes such as “My Pyramid”.

In her quest to make Americans eat more healthily, First Lady Michelle Obama realized the pyramid was just too hard to understand.

The latest version is called “My Plate”, a nutritional guide that is supposedly easier to understand. However, the dairy cup seems to be an afterthought.

Even with the nutrition plate, it’s possible that Americans will still find a way not to eat healthily.

In that case, the FLOTUS might have no choice but to open a can of whup ass on the American public.

Obama to sign Food Safety bill

Rightardia laughed at this cartoon. It reminded us of the commercials they used to run at drive-ins and still do at movie theaters today where the food comes marching by during intermissions.

President Barack Obama was scheduled to sign the Food Safety bill on Tuesday.

It allows the Food and Drug Administration to increase inspections of food producers and gives it more enforcement authority.

The legislation follows a series of widespread outbreaks of food-borne illness and food product recalls.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius calls it "the most significant food-safety law of the last 100 years."

But some Republicans in Congress who will oversee the FDA have questioned the need and cost of the bill.
