"If anyone had predicted to me in 1971 what China looks like in2009, I would have thought he was dreaming... but you have made a reality out of these dreams, " Kissinger said in a recent interview with Xinhua at his New York office on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on Oct. 1.
Kissinger, who helped pave the way for the normalization of U.S.-China relations in 1979, said the 30-year-old bilateral relationship has grown remarkably.
"In all the years that I have seen the Sino-American relationship, I have never seen such warmth on both sides," he said.
Kissinger said now is time for the two countries to "rebalance" their respective roles in the relationship due to their changed national power in a global context.
"The world that originally saw the Chinese-American relationship was different from the world today," he said. "In that sense, both sides really have to rebalance the relationship."
The United States needs to take into account the growing role China is playing, while China needs to adjust itself to assume bigger responsibilities, Kissinger said.
Meanwhile, cooperation remains a key solution to the global challenges, he added.
"The United States and China should have a very close relationship," Kissinger said. "They should constantly exchange ideas, so when they go into an international forum like the G20, they have parallel positions and can work together."
Energy and environment remain two major long-term challenges the world has to face, while nations worldwide have yet to coordinate in the globalized economic system, he said.
It is "the imperative of our time" that China and the United States cooperate on these global challenges, he said.
The Group of 20, or G20, should become an inclusive platform for international political and economic affairs for "the next few decades," he noted.

Ria Novosti: another impressive video of the 60th anniversary of the PRC
This is another interesting video of the Chinese 6oth Anniversary. The Chinese put on quite a show that was equivalent to what it did during the Beijing Olympics.
The children at the end of the video are reminiscent of the Dragon Ball Z cartoon series.

60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China
President Hu Jintao said in Beijing Thursday morning that the Chinese people were "full of confidence" in the bright prospects of the great rejuvenation of the nation.
The people from all ethnic groups "cannot be prouder of the development and progress of our great motherland," said Hu, addressing a grand rally at the Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing. The rally celebrated the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Addressing a grand rally at the Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Hu vowed to keep to the road of China-style socialism and the reform and opening-up policy.
"The development and progress of New China over the past 60 years fully proved that only socialism can save China and only reform and opening up can ensure the development of China, socialism and Marxism," Hu said.
In his speech, which was televised live nationwide and throughout the world, Hu said the Chinese nation, which had a civilization of more than 5,000 years, had entered a new era of development and progress since Chairman Mao Zedong pronounced the founding of the People's Republic of China on the same day 60 years ago.
"Today, a socialist China geared to modernization, the world and the future has stood rock-firm in the east of the world," said Hu.
He vowed to "unswervingly" stick to the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the reform and opening-up policy, push forward scientific development and promote social harmony for a "new chapter" of the people's happy life.

The Chinese Army has become very stylish.

Empire State building to celebrate 60th Anniversary of Chinese Communism
The US has been friends with China for 30 years since Richard Nixon established diplomatic relations with China. China could have easily invaded Taiwan, but has not.

The Red Chinese revolution started in WW2 and ended in 1949. The average Chinese person would probably indicate that China is better off under socialist leadership than that of the old nationalists that were defeated. Regardless of whether you like the Chinese government or not, it is a reality. The government is embraced by young Chinese men and women. A modicum of respect is appropriate.
Rightardia congratulates the Chinese people on their 60th anniversary. We also wish John Huntsman the best of luck with his new post as the US ambassador to China.
