Newt says relaxing child labor laws will fight poverty

Where did this come form? As a former historian, Newt has to know why these laws were passed.

Newt's ideas on child labor are reactionary, not radical. He is trying to turn back the clock to the beginning of the 20th century and the Great Depression.


In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Fair Labor Standards Act, which placed limits on many forms of child labor.


Expanding the job market in the midst of a recession won't lower the unemployment rate. Making the handicapped compete with children for janitorial jobs will not fight poverty either.
