WASHINGTON - Hispanics were more than half of the increase in the U.S. population during the last decade,. This means there are 50 million, or 1 in 6 Americans who are Hispanic.

Also, more than nine million Americans checked two or more race categories on their 2010 census forms. This was a 32 percent increase from 2000, a sign of increasing multiracial growth.

Local media in New Mexico wisely refused to run the 'don't vote' ad, the latest GOP attempt at vote suppression. Of course, the ad tries to make undocumented workers as a single issue canard. This is after two years of GOP obstruction other bills in the US Senate and an attempt in the GOP controlled New Mexico state house to bypass federal law on undocumented workers.

Hysterical Raisens:Latino vote supression

This is Nonnie9999's best work ever!  Beleive it or not, after the GOP has atacked Latin immigrants in New Mexico for months, it is now advising registred Latinos not to vote in the midterms.

I guess this is another way Republicans plan to suppress Democratic voters.

Mexican migrants return home

Workers have been returning to Mexico from Florida for two to three years because they were unable to find work. Most of the jobs these men and women take only affect Americans who lack a high school education.



The hillside of indigenous town of San Juan Mixtapec has traditionally had the highest number of migrants going to the US in all of Mexico.

In a town where nearly half of the people are illiterate and more than 60 per cent do not even have a primary education going north always meant that they could send money back home to their families who were in desperate need.

However, with the current economic recession nearly a quarter of the migrants have returned.

In need of jobs, the local government is trying to create employment programmes but it's not enough.

Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin profiles San Juan Mixtapec and its people to see how thee reverse flow of migration is affecting them.

Republicans play the race card again

A Republican National Committee online game that challenges players to spend trillions of dollars had to be taken down because of its racist content. Players could purchase conservative items for sale such as sexually explicit, anti-Semitic and anti-Latino items.

The game was designed to drive home to Young Republicans how much could be purchased with the $3.4 trillion President Obama requested in his budget. Players could charge everyday items to their “Obama Card.”

Type in the word “Jew” and you’ll find the book “The Jews and Their Lies” for sale right next to “Cool Jew: The Ultimate Guide for Every Member of the Tribe.”

Interested in reading about Latinos? A search on the website turns up “The Latino Threat” or, for something less ominous like “Latino Talent.”

And while the words “gay” and “vagina” are banned search terms, yielding a response of "Bad word!", homosexual will find you the book “Loving Homosexuals as Jesus Would.”

RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said the website pulls its inventory from Amazon.com, but developers didn’t realize that Amazon stocked offensive items most of which were written by Republicans.

The liberal website Americablog was one of the first to report on the GOP website and searched all kinds of naughty words, including bondage and escorts, which yielded suggested purchases including handcuffs, how-to-books and Astroglide.
