WSJ warnings on GOP revival

Republicans need more than just being the anti-Obama party. The GOP hasn't made any inroads in national polls.

The GOP needs some new ideas and it is unlikely that supply side economics will gain them any capital. The GOP needs a positive agenda rather than just being anti-tax, anti-immigrant, anti-minority or anti-health care.

Will the Republicans be able to govern after they win an election? No Republican president has balanced the budget since Dwight B. Eisenhower because the GOP spends lavishly on the Armed Forces and also cuts taxes. You can also count on multiple military adventures for a new GOP president to cut his or her teeth on.

The GOP could hardly be described as fiscally conservative. Can this old GOP mastodon learn some new tricks? Rightardia doubts it.

In response to News Corps’ massive losses, Rupert Murdoch announces that his company will start charging for all media content- let the debate begin.

Rightardia comment: This is a good development for progressive media.  Murdoch might get away with this for top line publication like the Wall Street Journal. We  doubt that he will make money with Fox news because there is too much opinion and too little news on Foxnews.com.

Rupert Murdoch wants to charge for Fox News Online

Rightardia comment: What a brilliant idea. Perhaps Rush Limbaugh will follow suit. 

Rupert Murdoch announced plans to charge for all online content of his newspaper and TV empire. The move was made due to declining profits of the Murdoch empire.

This is a bold move to boost revenue from online news, but it may be doomed to fail. Murdoch's News Corp empire spans the globe, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, Fox News and Australian media.

Gawker says the move has "fail written all over it." Andrew Sullivan (who gets a check from Murdoch's News Corp for a Sunday column) gives it more of a chance.

Asking readers to pay for FoxNews.com is like charging $10 for an after-dinner mint. That's not just my liberal commie instincts talking up: It would be true for CNN.com or any site subsisting on the lifeblood of AP wire stories.

If the bulk of your site is expendable, borrowed, or fungible with Google News, there's no reason to pay a dime for it.
