Why is Pat Buchanan Defending Hitler?
MSNBC conservative commentator and former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan has a history of insensitivity to issues surrounding the Holocaust. On the 70th anniversary of World War II, Buchanan posted a column on his own website that blames Poland for World War II.
Of interest the Russian government recently released documents that suggest Poland wanted to attack Russia. The Polish leadership’s had plans for the partition and subsequent annihilation of the Soviet Union, informs RIA Novosti news agency. Hitler seemed to be more interested in expanding German territory to include German speaking Poles than developing a more logical alliance with Poland to attack Russia. Of course, Hitler viewed Slavs as an inferior race, so perhaps such an alliance was impossible.
In a piece titled "Just how crazy is Pat Buchanan," Ethan Porter writes that Buchanan's latest comments reflect "revisionism that comes perilously close to denial:"
Despite his current position, as a friendly sparring partner with Rachel Maddow and in-house winger on MSNBC, the guy has been a very-thinly veiled fascist sympathizer for decades. And in his column this week, he all but removes that veil.
Buchanan wrote a column entitled "Did Hitler Want War?" Buchanan believes the answer to be no. Many historians would argue otherwise. The Russians had infiltrated the Gestapo and knew the exact date when the Nazis were going to attack.
Buchanan pins the blame for World War II on Poland, and Britain's guarantee of protection to it. As evidence, Buchanan points to a string of inexplicably dumb decisions made by Hitler . . .
Buchanan has the sort of history that has earned him an entire page on the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) website. The ADL goes so far as to describe Buchanan as one who "publicly espouses racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and anti-immigrant views."
The site features a sampling of more than 2,000 of Buchanan's own words, but maybe more telling are the thoughts of the late conservative intellectual William Buckley, who was included in a Newsweek's article "Is Pat Buchanan Anti-Semitic:"
Buchanan also wrote that if the United States went to war, the fighting would be done by "kids with names like McAllister, Murphy, Gonzales, and Leroy Brown." Buckley, in his usual opaque writing style, argues that this amounts to charging Jews with starting a war they wouldn't fight in a genuine slur against them.These are rough words coming from Buckley, who took great pains to distinguish between anti-Semitism and simply voicing criticism of Israel.
However, what may be most surprising is why Buchanan still has a job.
UPDATE II: Within an hour of our press release, MSNBC has removed Buchanan's column, "Did Hitler Want War," from their website.
David A. Harris, NJDC's President: "MSNBC took the responsible action and removed Pat Buchanan's column defending Adolf Hitler from their website, but no worthy news organization should employ and promote a commentator who engages in such vile fiction."
Buchanan, however, is to the center of the other conservative commentator on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough, on many issues. Buchanan did , at least, admit there were no WMDs in Iraq. Many other conservative commentators still in denial that that the Iraq War was unnecessary.

Sam Stein: health care will not be bipartisan
It was nice to see the Huffington Post's Sam Stein on the Ed Show. Stein is one of the best political writers on the Internet. Stein's analysis is usually right on the money.

This man wanted a conference with Arlen Specter during a Town hall meeting. He was not lucid during the MSNBC interview. Miller claims Obama has broken his oath of office which is ludicrous. This was Miller's first town hall meeting.

The Bush Crime Family needs to be investigated

The Republicans will continue to engage in rogue behaviour as long as the subsequent Democratic administration tolerates it. There are some good reasons why Dick Cheney wanted Scooter Libby pardoned.
Libby knows where all the skeletons are in the Cheney closet. Libby and other Cheney staffers are key to unravelling the Republican cabal.

Sarah Palin threatens Alaskan Huffington Post blogger
Sarah Palin and her attorney, Thomas Van Flein, have threatened to sue an alskan Huffington Post blogger, Shannyn Moore.Moore is a radio personality, a Huffington Post blogger, and a frequent guest on MSNBC''s Countdown with Keith Olbermann. There were scads of blogs, both local and national that reported on the Iceberg and Housegate rumors, many in greater detail than Moore did. But Moore really got under the soon-to-be-ex governor's skin. Palin apparently she watches MSNBC cable news more than she reads.
Today Van Flein issued a four page letter regarding the reporting of these rumors.
Van Flein's letter threatening legal action because blogger Shannyn Moore claimed as "fact" that Palin resigned under federal investigation.The only fact is that there are rumors which have been heard since last October. They even have a name - "Housegate or the 'Iceberg Scandal.'
Van Flein, asked why he singled out Moore, said it's because she went on national television and talked about it. Moore was on with MSNBC's David Shuster on Friday, the day Palin announced she will resign.
If you Google "Palin Housegate," you get 8,600 references, beginning back with an article that appeared in the Village Voice. Googling "Palin sports complex scandal" gets you 230,000. How many mentions do you need to constitute a rumor?
Moore has already discussed the threat on her radio show, where she said emphatically, "Bring it on." She said she had already gotten legal advice, and has a long list of attorneys who had emailed her, stepping up and eagerly offering to take on Sarah Palin in such a case.

Wisconsin Republican gets fired for criticizing Rush
Kevin Stevenson, a Republican spokesperson from Wisconsin who was booted from his job after criticizing Rush Limbaugh, went on MSNBC Friday to discuss his fall from GOP grace.
"I've been writing commentaries for the "Daily Herald" since October of 2008 for the election. And I wrote a commentary that included Rush Limbaugh, mentioning that we as Republicans need to start coming together," said Stevenson, former spokesman for the Marathon County Republicans.
"And it's my opinion that Rush has a very large audience and can be influential, but he is not the leader of the party and he is an entertainer. And he needs to be considered as an entertainer."
Stevenson said the proposal to eliminate his position from a group of county party members "was a surprise to everybody."
"[T]hey didn't like what I said about Rush, and they had tied that into some other things and it basically came up that, well, you're a moderate. Yes, I am a Republican who has moderate views on social issues. And they said, we can't allow that. You can't write for us if you're not with us."
So how does Stevenson feel about the Republican party now? At first he called himself an "invalid Republican," then modified: "I'm an inactive member of the Republican party of Marathon County ... I'm inactive now." But as far as his beliefs, he said, "I am still a Republican.
