The United States Department of Defense, the United States Air Force (USAF), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the US RAND Corporation Research and Development, US and Australia Pacific Vision data conducted a what Rightardia believes was a simulated notional command post exercise (CPX).
These exercises are often simulated by main frame computers that are programmed and directed by competing red and blue teams
The CPX PACAF Pacific Vision was conducted on Sept 25, 2008 revealed that United States air superiority was unlikely.
The Red Team had one hundred Su-27SM, four Su-30 and two Su-35. The Blue Team had one hundred F-35, one hundred eighty seven F-22 and four hundred F/A-18E/F.
The CPX showed although the blue team had a higher number of aircraft, hundreds of Blue Forces aircraft were lost in the first 20 minutes of air play to the Red Forces. On the other hand only 12 aircraft were lost by the Red Team.
The simulation results may have effected the production of the F-22 which was canceled. The F-35 project has also lost funds all since 2008.
Trials in Australia , which Rightardia suggests were simulated on computers, between 5th generation F-35 on the one hand and the current 4th generation Sukhoi SU-35, was a catastrophe for Blue forces. The F-35 was easy to shoot down according to some observers.
Australia, Canada and Japan are about to pull out from ab F-35 buy because "it can't turn, can't climb and can't run."
According to a recent study by the Rand corporation:
The F-35 would be consistently defeated by the Russian-made
SU-35 fighter aircraft. The defeat calculated by the scenario also
showed the loss of the F-35's supporting airborne-early warning and
air-to-air refueling aircraft.
The Russian-made T-50, PAK-FA low-observable fighter now in development is expected to be much more lethal than the SU-35 in air-to-air combat against the U.S. made F-35.
The SU-35 and T-50 made appearances this year at the Russian aerospace industry air show known as MAKS2011. Both aircraft will include sensors and networking which can minimise the effects of the limited low-observable qualities of the F-35. They will also perform better and carry more air-to-air weapons than an F-35.
Independent air combat analysts from Air Power Australia have also stated that the F-35 is not capable of facing high end threats; what will be delivered (if it ever arrives) will be obsolete; and that the F-35 is not affordable or sustainable."
Many American may be shocked by this report, but the results are based on a computer simulation that has many assumptions made about Russian aircraft performance and their pilot's capabilities. Rightardia suspects the PACAF CPXs have been run at least two more times since the original CPX in 2008.
Of interest, the Russian Mig-15 was superior to the fighter jet aircraft the US had in the beginning of the Korean War. The Mig-21 was also the best fighter aircraft in the Vietnam War. However, the US had the best pilots which kept the US Air Force competitive.
Today the Russian pilots are much better and probably equivalent to the US pilots in many respects. We have no idea on Chinese pilot proficiency. We hope we never find out, too.
