The former director of security at the Upper Big Branch mine will serve three years in federal prison.
Hughie Elbert Stover was convicted of lying to federal agents and destroying documents sought by investigators probing the 2010 disaster that killed 29 miners in West Virginia .
The case focused on Stover’s role of giving the mine advance warning of safety inspections, which allowed cover-ups of bad safety practices.
